THE PINEHURST OUTLOOK FAMOUS CHAMPIONS DEFEATED Montreal Ladies Win Handicap Four Ball Match in Silver Foils Tournament Mrs. S- C. Jones and Miss Jones of Montreal, lined up against truly formid nble teams of champions, including Miss Mildred Caverly, runner-up at Belmont Springs last year, playing -with Miss Eleanor Gates, winner of the St. Valen tine's, Mrs, Roland H. Barlow and Mrs. I'Jorothy Campbell Hurd, still took the first prize in the Silver Foils four ball best ball match last week by a good mar gin -of three strokes. Their net score vns 77, their nearest competitors being Miss Gwendolyn Cummings and Mrs. Peg WoflSngton, who tied for second place with Mrs. Ellisou and Mrs. H. H. ftnekham of Detroit- SUMMARY, NO. The response by the Cottage Community Jind guests of the hotels has been very ji ratifying, amounting, at the time of going to press to the. sum of $1,220-00. The Association wishes in this manner to acknowledge the subscriptions, and sincerely to thank the subscribers for their generosity and kindnes in coming promptly to the support of this neces sary work. Redfield 50 $1,220 HENRY McALEENAN Wins the Junior Golf Tour nament With the remarkably good card of 89 over Number One, Henry McAleenan of New York came home champion of the boys of Pinehurst, winning the final round from Stuart Macdonald of Toron to 5 and 4. The occasion was the first of the Annual Junior Golf Tournaments for school boys. Warren Bicknell of Cleveland returned the best score in the qualifying round, and acquired the medal with a score of 103, McAleenan was one stroke behind, and the rest of the field were grouped behind Oliver Redfield of Greenwich, who came in with 109. The youngsters made a very credita ble showing, and give promise of mak ing the event one of the popular features cf the year. Mrs. Finch Rifle Champion The prize for the best score of the week's shoot by the ladies of the colony at the rifle range under Annie Oakley's instruction was won this week by Mrs. Margaret Finch of New York with 138 points out of a possible 150. So popu lar has this contest become that the entry list has become altogether too large for Annie Oakley's sole care, and Charles Newcomb, the famous trap shoot er and many times champion, has volun teered his assistance. More than 1500 ladies have been in this competition this vcar. Crocker Wins the Shoot Breaking 87 out of a hundred targets in the weekly trap shooting handicap Charles T. Crocker of Fitchburg ran well over the 100 mark with his allow ance, and took his stand with Mitchell, Hubbell, Hostetter and Swift in the shoot-off. Here his net score was a per fect string of 25, two better than Mitch ell and Swift, and three better than Hubbell and Hostetter. D. F.
