Since the days when Mr. James Tufts cut the first pine to make space for the corner stone, the Carolina Hotel has never had so many guests or so merry before Christmas as it can boast this day and hour. That reliable and certain company, styled at the County Club the Openers, whose arrival gives the snap and impetus to the Swatfest and action at the tee, were in under the guns. There was John G. Nicholson and John E. Bowker, marshall of the host, Mr. and Mrs. C. F. Lancaster of Boston and T. the cottage folk for the evening ball, and there was a full contingent from the plantations on hand to celebrate. Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Tufts had a party of young people from Marienfeld and Eagle Springs. Mr. and Mrs. Benjamin F. Butler and Mr. and Mrs. George Maurice and Miss Maurice were in the party Among tli most notable of the week's arrivals was Commander C. E. Eliu from Rome. The commander has seen exciting and dangerous service in command of an Italian submarine, and is recovering from wounds received in battle. He is an ardent sportsman and has taken Butler on for the full Season's hunt. His narratives are matched by those of Frank J. E. Kilpatrick, who was one of the members of the original Canadian police in the days of Sitting Bull, and the underground passage of the bad men from Montana. The arrivals also include F.
