$ssS(THE MNEHURST OVTLC'kMIMJ XEWCOMB OOMES BACK (Concluded from, page one) Tel and the steadiest winner in the Tvholeg ame. Tuesday he opened the shoot with a flas-i of his old style, as steady as ever seen here, cracking 195 of the 200 bric-a-brac .pigeons, never missing more than one in a string, show ing five clear frames, and winning high money. Powers, the hope of. Decatur, 111.; and of the whole Northwestern Territory, lield his own in this close-shooting affray until he reached the seventh frame. Here he fell down for three misses, exactly enough to land him three down on the high gun for "the day. In this position, recording 192, he was tied by G. N. Fish, from Buffalo, the most consistent shooter in the United States last year, and J. Gilbert Fye of Ollie, Iowa. Fish had two runs of 60 each without a miss, but he also ran into a bad streak on one frame, .and chalked up a fatal 17. Fye was steadier, never missing more than two out of a string, but never so brilliant. W. II. Yule, tied up with S. G. Vance and II. A. Morsen in next place with 189. THE MORGAN-RICHARDS DUEL. Behind these scores and the camouflage of the high guns for the day there lay other matters of concern to the shooting world. Down in the list at this opening were two shots whose every tally was watched with deep interest by the fans of Trapdom two were not destined to remain in the ob scure eighties. These were C. L. Rich ards of Livingston, Wis., and E. D. Mor gan, the Washington expert. Not only were they pulling for the money in this .shoot, but they were vorking for a place in the Maplewood. They were shooting off a tie for the coveted position. And to urge the suspense to the breaking point, this first daythey tied again, 184 apiece. The scores for the first day were: C. II. Popular interest in the private battle racing between Richards and Morgan was heightened Wednesday, the second day, by their both immerging from the press and even passing the invincible Newcomb for first place for the day. And it was pressed almost into a delirium by their staying neck and neck and fin ishing this most extraordinary of all tie3 still even. Both of them surpassed themselves, and the field, each iinishing with 193 breaks out of a possible 200 to their credit. If either contestant in this phenominal double rally can be said to deserve the most credit, it goes to Morgan. With only two more frames to go he was three shots behind. In that ("lilemna he turned to and smashed both frames straight without a miss. And the laughing God of Chance took three from Richards' score leaving them where they began. The only other man to edge by New comb this second day was E. V. Kirby, whose 192 was one better than the old champions, and the same number ahead of W. II. Yule. This score of Yule's put him into fourth place for the two days. Newcomb as was expected held the high gun for the 400 birds with a total of 386. Neither Morgan nor Rich ards had a good enough showing to catch the inevitable Powers either. Dropping to sixth place in Wednesdays foray Powers still had 190, and a total of 3S2, which landed second money by the rarrow margin of one over tne deadly run of Georga W. Fish. A feature of these opening days was the presence on the firing line of Mrs. D. J. Dalton and Mrs. Almert of Chicago, who have both come to have a National and enviable reputation among the v omeu shooters of America, and who are capable of giving a hard match to any man at the traps outside of the Newcomb Class.
