T. PATCH DEPT. STORE Southern Pines, N. C. The Shopping Center of the Sandhills Since 1896 Merchandise of the better grade at prices reasonable and consist ant with quality. (Continued from Page 9) These races are, in a way, in honor of the new horses which Pinehurst owners have brought down—at least, they would not have been placed on the schedule without them. The harness events will include Mr. W. H. Watt’s “Forest Girl” and “Prodigal Silk;” Mr. J. D. Callery’s “Marcella Scott;” Mr. H. M. Dingley’s “Bubbles” and “Gwendolyn Aubrey,” Mr. Henry Scott’s “Bob Dingen,” and others, while the running races will have what Mr. Picquet assures us is the fastest lot of entries yet seen on the Pinehurst track. Not all the crack golf is played in the tournaments. Oswald Kirby, of New York, former metropolitan golf champion, dropped in towards the end of November and shot 7S’s on the No. 2 championship course without benefit of gallery. Eugene Homans, down from Prince ton on vacation, did the same thing. Mr. John Philip Sousa is at the Carolina, an old and honored guest. Those of us who a fewT nights ago heard over the radio Mr. Sousa announce that he was about to lead his band in a selection—this from a New York station—were surprised; but there are certainly expiations, perhaps the phonograph among them. We are grateful to any miracle of science which allows the composer tp lead his band from New York over the rjadio and take a vacation in the Village at the same tifne. •i: " " • .
