HUN TER, of North Adams, Mass., winner of the Carolina tournament last month, yesterday defeated Eric D. Thomson, of New York, in’the final match of the President’s di vision to win the eighth annual Season Mem bers’tournament. (Pic tures are on page 8.) Winning by two up, the Bay State star went Manitoba Nan, winner of the all-age stakes in the Pointer Club of America trials; owned by T. Kerry Bailey, of Philadelphia. out in 39 strokes, the same count as Thomson, who stood even with him at the turn. Coming back in 38 strokes, he finished with two under fours for the last four holes to take the match and the title in a spurt of fine golf. Both were trapped on the first two holes, but Thom son won the first with a par four. Hunter’s birdie two on the fourth evened the count, and they see-sawed to the turn, where Thomson holed a long putt for a birdie three on the ninth, to square the match again. Hunter was stymied on the tenth, Thomson taking the hole. Hunter squared with a par four on the twelfth, but —PHOTO BY HEMMER dropped to one down on' the thirteenth after a trapped second. His par three on the fif teenth evened up the match again, and his birdie four on the six teenth sent him into the lead. The seventeenth was halved in par three, and Hunter closed with a par four on the home stretch, on which Thomson needed five after misjudging his second shot. D. Hyatt four and two, and in the Secre tary^ division J. P. Williamson defeated O. C. Hutchin son one up. To gain the finals, Hunter defeated David N. Tallman by 4 and 3, and Thomson conquered E. A. Guggenheim, winner of the Autumn tournament, 4-3.
