Suggests A Summer Pinehurst in Many Ways
The Maplewood Club, in the White Moun
tains of New Hampshire, differs from the usual
good summer resort. It is the sports centre
of the White Mountains, with Golf, Polo,
Swimming, Trapshooting, and Tennis Tourna
ments of widespread interest, and a Horse Show
of note,—all at their best on the superb Maple
wood estate of 1500 acres, at an altitude of
1500 feet looking over the Presidential Range
and the heart of the White Mountains.
And the club spirit, of congenial families
and their friends returning to renew summer
joys and friendships year after year, makes
Maplewood more than just a good hotel. A
number of Pinehurst and Southern Pines guests
and residents come to Maplewood, not only to
escape the heat and enjoy the scenery, but to
make the summer a long experience in outdoor
happiness and good living. Those who have
been to the White Mountains know the wealth
of pleasant a,nd interesting things to do and
see—Mount Washington, the Old man of the
Mountains, the Flume, a world of tall peaks
against the summer sky, with dozens of charm
ing New England and Canadian villages and
golf courses scattered round about, connected
by paved highways of great beauty.
The airplane view above gives some idea
of how conveniently everything at Maplewood
is arranged. The casino and tea-garden, where
the large colony of young people and their eld
ers watch the tennis courts, the last hole of
the famous eighteen-hole championship course,
and the sparkling cement pool with its white
sand beach where golfers, tennis-players, horse
back riders, trapshooters, and mountain climb
ers take a refreshing dip. The main clubhouse
has entertained thousands of people accustomed
not’only to the comforts but to the refinements
and gayeties of life.
A new attraction this year will be a Polo
Camp under the direction of Lyle Phillips,
polo coach at Phillips Andover Academy. Col
onel Anderson of the Pennsylvania Military
College will be there also.
The real secret of Maplewood’s charm, how
ever, is not the large program of sports, the
creature comforts, or even the beauty of its
surroundings; it is the congeniality of the
guests, who find in common interests and a
common love of good-sportsmanship, the good
fellowship which is their just reward.
That is why we say that in many ways
Maplewood suggests a summer Pinehurst, and
we invite your inquiries.
