Heretofore, throughout the 106 years of Maysville’s exist ence as an incorporated city,, the mayor ' has shared the of fice of the police chief, city clerk, city treasurer or police judge. " J But things have changed. When the city administration moved into the new municipal building, Mayor James Buckley was assigned a private office. Perhaps the dream of a great sports arena is too .ambitious, but something certainly can be done about a sports center large enough properly to seat 1,500 to 2,000. ,, * * * ' Competition for the expert women golf players is getting keener and keener, according to observers who have been in. Flor ida and watched some of the activity along the winter tournament circuit. This has been an especially fine season for Women’s tourna ments in Florida. Many new faces have appeared and added zest to the entertainment value of the resort events, as well as news paper headlines. * # There have been cocktail parties and orchids for the stars. Invitations to stop at the homes of the ^wealthy have been showered upon the ladies who play the course in par, or thereabout. As the time draws ^near for the ladies’ competitions in the Pinelands, some thought is being given about the fields which will appear. The North and South invitational tournament for women makes / nq -move to entice any bf the star players to appear here. Both Donald J. Ross, manager of the Pinehurst Country Club and Richard S. Tufts, president of Pinehurst Inc., and a member pf the rules committee of the^U. S. G. A. abide by the spirit, as well as the letter, of the golf association’s amateur ruling. The North and South' field is always representative of the best there is in ama*teur golfing talent among the ladies. A fine field will play in this event. BLACKNESS HATH CHARMS IN ‘GAY’ VIENNA VIENNA—(JP) —Vienna, still city df music, is experimenting with the presentation of con certs in* almost complete dark ness. The city’s Grosse Konzer thaussaal was blacked out for the ^ beginning of the experi ments. Carefully shaded » light illuminated the musician’s scores, but the hall was dark ened. Music is most fully appre ciated in utter darkness with no impressions picked up by the eyes to disturb listeners, some of the city’s leading musicians, held. Ik was observed that many concert-goers were aware of this fact, and globed their eyes. The experiments were* pronounced successful, and will be continued. # I Musical.
