Opened For Business Wed.
AHOSKIE - Ahoskie got Its
first ABC store Wednesday when
doors opened at 9 a.m. at 414 £,
Main with $40,000 worth of stock
and Bill Brown as manager and
Harold Vinson as clerk, and a
combination clerk and warehouse
man to be added.
Also on hand were Rufus Dar
den of Como, who will manage
the Murfreesboro store, sched
uled to open Monday or Tues
day, and Calvin Pearce of Mur
freesboro, clerk, and Bruce Bra
dy of Wlnton who will operate
the Wlnton store, site of which Is
yet to be decided.
Salaries of the ABC employees
have been set at $95 a week for
managers and $90 a week for
clerks with staggered hoursplan-
ned to limit working time to 40
or 41 hours a week, according
to P. B. Woodley, Hertford Coun
ty ABC Board chairman.
Initially, hours of the Ahoskie
store will be from 9 a.m. to 9
p.m. Woodley said.
However, hours will be govern
ed by the flow of business, he
said, with this to be decided a
little later.

Plans Reunion
RICH SQUARE - The 1957
graduating class of Rich Square
High School will meet for their
first reunion on Saturday night,
August 7 at 8 o’clock at The
Heritage In Rocky Mount.
Serving as chairmen of the re
union plans are Mrs. Ruben Ben-
thall, Jr,, and Dell Millar.
Nineteen members comprised
the class, and the chairmen have
issued Invitations to each one to
attend.

year-old resident of George was
reported to be in satisfactory
condition in the Roanoke-Chowan
Hospital, recovering from Injur
ies sustained In a two-car col
lision near here Sunday.
N. C. Highway Patrolman S. E.
Jones reported this morning Ar
thur Jay Edwards was injured In
the wreck around 6:30 p.m. on
U.S. 258, one mile north of here.
The patrolman reported three
other persons, Earl Poole, Ger
ald Welch and Pamela Wicker,
all of Sanford, were treated for
minor injuries at the Our Com
munity Clinic here and released.
According to the patrolman,
the accident occurred when a 1959
Ford, operated by James Welch,
20, of Sanford, ran off the right
side of the road, back to the left.
Into the left bound lane and struck
head on a Volkswagen operated
by Edwards.
Edwards was admitted to the
Roanoke-Chowan Hospital, Ahos
kie, with severe arm and facial
lacerations, said Jones.
Approximately $400 damage
was reported to the Volkswagen
and $500 damage to the Ford.
Jones is continuing his inves
tigation.
