Jilcott of Rich Square, center, who retired on September 30 from her position of 13 year.s as secretary-treasurer of Farmers Mutual Fire Insurance Association was presented a silver service as a memento of her services by Mr, and Mrs. Ronald Chappell, on behalf of the As- sociation. The Chappells, he is president of the association which serves Northampton, Bertie and Hertford counties, ex pressed their personal thanks to Mrs. Jilcott with a gift of silver salt and pepper shakers. Parker of Woodland, Man Appeals Drag Racing, Bond Posted At $1,000 JACKSON — A Skippers, Va., man Is free on $1,000 bond after appearing before Judge Ballard S. Gay In Recorder’sCout last Wed nesday. The man was placed under the bond pending an appeal of a pre arranged drag racing charge to be heard in Superior Court. John Meredith Allen, Jr., Rt. 1, Skippers, was found guilty and fined $500 and the court costs on the racing count by Judge Gay. He was ordered placed under bond when he served notice of appeal to the higher court. Allen’s conviction of the al leged racing charge brings a cli max to a lingering case in the courts since last February. A companion in the charge had been arrested and tried long before last week’s session, according to a spokesman. Allen, a resident of Virginia, • / had escaped when the alleged event took place and had not been found In North Carolina since that date. However, recently he was ar rested for speeding 70 mph In a 55 zone and was taken In for the -racing charge, too. Judge Gay found the man guilty on the speed ing count and fined him $10 and the costs of court. Other matters heard during Wednesday’s session of the court with Buxton Weaver assisting as solicitor were; Horace Vinson of Woodland, assault on a female, nol pros with leave on payment of the court costs, Rommie Beifleld of Roanoke Rapids, no operator’s permit, fined $25 and costs of court. Llnwood Connie Ivey of Rt. 1, Garysburg, driving while drunk; amended to driving left of the cen ter line, fined $10 and costs. L. Jen kins and Mr. and Mrs. Graham Smith. Squirrel Bites Youths JACKSON - Two young broth ers were bitten here September 27 by a squirrel. Jett Walker and Drew Walker, sons of Mr. and Mrs. S. J. Walk er, received booster tetanus shots at the County Health De partment after being bitten by the squirrel. Dr. W. R. Parker, county health officer, will keep the squirrel under observation for two weeks to determine if rabies Is present.
