Suspended Sentence Given On Pig Stealing Charge JACKSON - Judge Ballard S. Gay sentenced three men, charg ed wlthstealingpigs, to 12 months in jail, assigned to work on the roads, in last week’s session of Recorder's Court. The judge suspended the ac tive sentence, however, on the following conditions: (1) that each defendant pay the court costs (2) each be placed on probation for two years (3) and that each man pay a total of $40.35 restitution to Mlland Hines for the pigs stolen. James Harris, John Thomas Mayotte and Floyd Tann, all of the Rich Square area, had been arrested for pig stealing and charged with larceny. They al legedly stole some pigs from the farm of Mlland Hines, also ofthe Rich Square area. Other matters heard during the day’s session were routine and were dominated by the usual motor vehicle violations, Bennie Newman Parks, Jr., of Rich Square, charged with reck less driving, was given six months on the roads, suspended on payment of a $50 fine and the court costs after Judge Gay found him guilty as charged. R. J. High of Skippers, Va., was given a 90-days road sen tence, suspended on payment of the court costs and payment of $15 restitution to the prosecuting witness, after he was found guilty of assault and pulling a knife on Lorenzi Smith (no address). The $ 15 was to go to Smith for pay ment of a coat. Lewis Cralne of Garysburg, assault on a female; nol pros on payment of the court costs. Thomas Day of Margaretts- vllle, nonsupport, nol pros. Red Velvet Ball Given At Armory RICH SQUARE - The first Red Velvet Ball sponsored by the Silverlite Club of Rich Square was held in the National Guard Armory in Woodland on Decem ber 27. A red, white and green color scheme was used in decorating. Each table was covered with a red cloth and held holly rings, centered with lighted red and white candles. A white Christ mas tree with red balls was placed in the center of the floor. Boxes of white matches with “The Sllverlltes” letered in gold were presented guests as souve nirs.
