P, Banks, chief of the Mur freesboro Fire Department, said the blaze gutted the interior of the community church before firemen could stop its spread. Wilbert Wilson of Jackson was sentenced to six months impris onment for disposing of mort gaged property. Sentence sus pended on condition he remain on probation for one year. Students To Get IRS Tax Break GREENSBORO -• North Caro lina students who work part-time or summers may have a refund coming on their 1966 Federal in come tax returns, J. E, Wall, district director of Internal Rev enue, said today. Students are required to file call. The blaze was thought to have started in a basement of the church, com pletely destroying the recently renovated sanctuary. Water and smoke damage also was apparent in the newly - con structed classroom building. Fire Chief Joe Frank Draper of Conway said the fire wouldhave caused much more extensive damage had it not been for the quick response of area fire de partments. Will Seek Mental Health Answers In Rural Areas a tax return if they earned $600 or more. If they earned less than $600 and taxes were withheld from wages by their employers, they sould file a return in order to obtain a refund of the tax withheld from their wages. Unmarried students who earn less than $900 will not owe any Federal income tax. They are entitled to claim the usual $600 personal exemption, plus a $300 minimum standard deduction. Students are entitled to claim their own personal exemption when filing a tax return, Mr. Wall said. Parents who furnish more than one-half the cost of support for their child who is a full-time student may also claim an ex emption of their tax return, un less the child is married and is filing a joint return with his or her spouse. READ AND USE THE ’ CLASSIFIED WANT ADS CHAPEL HILL - New methods of meeting the mental health needs of rural areas is the goal of a unique community demon stration project ready to begin in Vance County, the first of two North Carolina counties select ed for a project which could pro vide information useful in devel oping mental health programs in the nearly 1,600 rural counties of the United States, The second Carolina county will be selected later this year. Dr. William G, Hollister, a psychiatrist, and Dr. J. Wilbert Edgerton of the Department of Psychiatry at the University of North Carolina School of Medi cine are directors. The plans provide assistance for acute mental illnesses which need psychiatric attention and will work with citizen groups to identify family human relations and behavioral problems, A family counseling and educa tion center will be set up inHen- derson, county seat. A nurse or social worker, (program coordi nator), will be on daytime duty “to help people who need help to get to help.” A part-time local physician will make medical decisions and administer drugs and a field worker to provide transportation to the university or state mental health facilities for those people needing emergency help. There will be a 24-hour telephone con tact with psychiatric consultants at the UNC School of Medicine. Mental health specialists will visit the center to strengthen the local care of patients, to back this care up with resources at the state level and to make the care more readily available to those who need it. Plans also call for establish ing an emergency fund for 24 to 72 hours patient care in theHen- derson hospital.
