WXDXEriDAY SOV. 0. 1001. THE EDITOR'S DREAM. I had a dream a few night* ago. I dreamed that I was traveling over a beautiful country, where crystal water* of never failing issue wound around lolly vine-covered hills. The air was fragrant with the odor* of sweet flow ers, and feathered songster* of rare plumage and sweetest voice were seen and hoard ever and anon. The roads were in excellent condition, and every foot path smooth and olean. Journuyihg along with stick in hand, I met an aged pilgrim, who was a na tive of this l>eautiful land. After engaging with him, in a most delightful and in structive conversation, for a long tiiue, for he loved to dwell upon tha grand scen ery, flowing waters, beauti ful flowers, and sweet-si ag ing birds, I asked him about the politics of the people who inhabited this lovely country. He seemed y eager to talk on this iraiyictas <»' ~ and delivered himself thus: Many yuan* ago we had a motley muss of inhabitants. We had Anglo-Saxons, Mon golians, Chinese, Indians and Africans. For some time we had untold troubles. The Indians became s o treacherous and annoying, we drove them away. The Africans, being already sc li mited to the country and having bat few wants to sup ply, worked for lees wages than the other races were willing to take, and they left the whites and negroes in pos session of the country. For a time, matters moved quiet ly, but some of the whites wickedly united with the ne groes against the better class of whites. Meekly and qui etly thseo good people sub mitted for * few years, when they resolved that they would rale the lend or die. and at it they went, aided by the better class of those who had affiliated with the ne groee, and white supremacy was established. Here we thought our troubles had ended, and we were hap py in the hope that we would always have peace and pros perity. Bat alas, there were a few who thought they shea Id enjoy special privi leges, bscsosa of their great valor in the grand struggle. Them gave os much trouble, fore abort time, but the peo ple decided to take the mat ter into their own hands, and whhont a struggle, they es tablished a government of, and by the people, where none. Her.*, ever}* man is aj sovereign and j»eat « and Imp-' pincss and prosperity aro mil's ever more. So capti vated was I with tho story of my aged friend, I said to him, I tliink I will move to this lovely country. He said to me, where do yon live? I replied, in Richmond county, N. C. Then he said, I have heard of your county, and how you have been afflicted with negro domination, and how in the great battle of 1898, you sot up white gov ernment, but I understand that the people are not fully satisfied with all their en vironments. However, that will all come right at tho next election without any trouble, if the people will establish primaries and quiet ly vote for the men of their choice. Why, said I, this i* what they are going to do. Then he said, your land will flow with milk and honey; your hills will be as lovely as these and sparkling waters will ever flow around them, while the morning carols of your native birds will hornld the dawn of day, a happier day, in accents as sweet as these binis you see here. Why yes, said I, I hear the faint sound of music, coming nearer, and still nearer. Hark, what is it I hearj Oh, I see a bevy of sweet girls coming, and as my listening ear catches the refrain* I hear those sweet words, Carolina, Carolina Ac , and I awoke to find the people of old Rich mond of one heart and one mind, living in "the dearest *pot the sun ever shone on. WE ARE NOT KICK * ERS. It has come to pass that when a man does not, can not indorse everythixo done by those we call loaders, and dares to express himself ad versely, ho is at once called a kicker. He is said “not to be in line with the party.” Well, he may not be in line with some men of the party, and yet be pure and true to democratic principles. He may find fault with some things done by some demo crats. good democrats, and yet be as good a democrat as any man who claims to be in line with the party. “All is not gold that glitters,” and it U possible that some who claim to be good democrats, may not prove to be such. Let us not bo kickers. This is our privilege, but if others receive more votes in the primaries, and thereby secure the nominations, then it is our duty to support them at the ballot box.
