C, THURSDAY Afternoon, NOVEMBER 7, 1918. $1.50 PER YEAR IST1CE IN SIG HT ARM Latest Bulletin at 4:30 This Afternoon Is That German Emissaries Are to Meet the Allied Military Command at 5 O'clock on the Western Front for Con ference Looking to Signing of an Armistice. Armistice Not Yet Signed. Washington and New York Celebrating This Afternoon Over Pros pects of Peace. American Troops This Morning Entered the Important City of Sedan. It was reported over the cotton wire this afternoon that Germany had signed an armistice with the Allies, but this, as we go to press, is a mistake. German emissaries are to meet the Allied military command at live o'clock this afternoon on the Western front relative to an armistice, but it is still uncertain whether such will be signed. Germany knows the Allied terms; there can be no parleying over them. It is sign or continue to receive the terrible drubbing. Cotton is pretty wise; when the armistice news was flashed about noon, the New York market jumped up 80 points at.one clip, but later in afternoon dropped, until the close was points under the opening. That would seem to indicate that there is little probability of an armistice being signed. ' The armistice terms would require the Jstandmnt of all German forces, the turning over to the Allies of the entire German fleets, and possession by Allies of the entire German fleets, and possession by Allies ol the German forts on Rhine. American forces this rooming captured and entered Sedan. Turkey unconditionally surrendered on Triday of last week, and Austria did the same last Monday. Germany stands alone, and her complete surrender seems to be but a question of hours. COUNTY Richmond County Goes Democratic As Usual, But By Much Larger Majorities. State Democratic By 50,000. All Ten Congressmen Democratic. Robinson's Majority About 4000. Congress Divided. Republicans Win House, Democrats Senate. As can be seen from the official vote given on page twelve, the Democracy ot Richmond county rallied strongly to the standard last Tuesday, and the result was a veritable landslide. The majori ties range from 1150 to 1250. The majority two years ago for Sheriff was 1082; the Sheriffs majority this year was 1163. The total vote cast for Sheriff two years ago was 2139; this year only 1867 votes were cast. And so it is seen that though a smaller vote was cast this year than usual, yet the majority waslarger. - ' . The Republican leaders have been making big claims for the county, but doubtless they are now wiser but sadder men. The ticket in the State was elected by an approximate majority of 50,000. All ten Democratic Congressmen were elected. The Legislature is more Democratic than ever. The 1917 Legislature had 100 Democrats in the House and 41 in the Senate. This year the strength will be 101, and 43. The officinl tabulated vote can be seen on page 12 (back page). The big German armistic news received this alt. crowded it from front page. . . .. Throughout Nation.
