Furniture Store
to New Quarters
Gordon & Land to Move Business
to New Place on Watson
Heights.
Announcement was made this
week that the Gordon & Land
Furniture Company, who for the
past three years has occupied the
Steele building, will move their
store to the two building of Mr.
John Chalk on Watson Heights.
They will occupy the building now
used by the Furniture Exchange
and the adjoining building. A few
changes are to be made in the
buildings the last of this month
and it is hoped by the Gordon &
Land management that they will
be straightened out in their new
quarters by August 1st. To re
duce their stock prior to moving
they are offering quite a discount
on all of the merchandise now in
the Steele building. An advertise
ment of some of the values being
offered will be found elsewhere in
this issue.
LeGrand Land, of the local store
of Gordon & Land, when inter
viewed by a correspondent of this
paper, was enthusiastic about the
change.
"With the reduced rent and a
smaller, more compact stock we
are going to offer some real prices
on furniture out there. The fact
that we are moving out a ways
and into smaller quarters does not
mean that we are going to cut
down on our activities in Rocking
ham a bit. Our business here, up
until the past few months, has
been even better than we expect
ed when we opened here three
years ago. We intend to stay here
and are making this move simply
to effect a saving in our overhead
expenses, which we expect to pass
on to our customers."

IN REMEMBRANCE
Annie Terry Leak, Colored.
In remembrance of our Mother,
Annie Terry Leak, who departed
this life, June 13th, 1938, at
three-thirty o'clock.
.She leaves to mourn a hus
band, 2 sons and 5 daughters.
"If I could call her back for one
short hour,
Who was of love and true so
fair a flower,
And see her lovely face and
smiling eye
Just as they were before she had
to die.
I'd tell you how, that sad and
lonely day,
Our spirits grieved when her'a
took it's flight,
And how we missed her footsteps
- at the door,
To which we knew she could re
turn no more.
"If I' could call her back for one
short hour
I'd say so many things I failed
to say,
Tell her it was too late and she
was gone
Her gentle Spirit to God had
flown.
And left me with a soul and a
broken heart,
Because, with her it was so hard
to part,
And to our cries her dull cold
ears were deaf,
Which only added greatly to our
grief."
Gratefully acknowledging and
thanking every one, white and
colored for their kindness and
expressions of sympathy during
the sickness and death of our
Mother.
Daughter,
Missouri Leak, colored.
