And the fact remains that the Davidson Board is apparently unwilling for an investigation or recount to be made. If Davidson has had a clean election, and , stores was lounaea in Mr. Burgin received the majority and is one of the oldest and he claims, then a recount cannot, largest of its kind. It now has hurt him. But if something is 170 stores m the United States, rotten up there, then it is , dut , besides co-operating with more the people of this 8th district! than 800 individual merchants that such a condition be cleaned to enable them to offer the pub and the rightful, legal ballots' fn established reputation for only be counted. , qty at ZT tn It is a fact that Mr. Deane One of these stores now to has been unable to get a single! open m kinhain.B"f: Notary Public . in Davidson', mjn CO"nty... The whole Davidson situation nas ueen a matter ux mucn puu- hcity over the state, and has greatly aroused the friends of Deane throughout the district. The way the Davidson men were treated here at 'Rnr.lcinorham. nnr? c , the courtesies extended them cxc xu vuiuinaijr xccuunt the same brand 01 auto pans ar.u here, is in striking contrast to accessories, etc., at approximate the way Mr. Deane and his ly the same prices as offered by h plnprs have heen treated in . ? n n T4-,t of rvoa ! - Davidson. This is no reflection upon Mr. Burgin personally, for he no doubt was not a party to auch conduct. but facts are ' facts and the bloody, broken faces of Charlie uaudell and Davidson bear emDhatie evidence of the bitterness and unfairness of some -of the people of David- son county. There are scars that will be hard to heal and certainly may not be healed un less the whole mess is sifted to the bottom. All Deane wants is a fair count, a fair election and he asks the State Board to give him that very thing. He asksj for no less, and he deserves no' more. Deane asked the Union county i Board to recount certain boxen j in Monroe wherein Congressional ballots were discarded because', found in the county box. Thej Union Board refused a recount, j until compelled to by the State Board. This recount was made July 16th and resulted in a net! gain there of 48 for Deane. In j Montgomery county a recheck j of Absentees on July 18th netted; Deane 10 more votes; and in! the examination of Absentees by! Atty. L. P. McLendon at Lexing ton last week, 22 of Burgin Ab-j sentees were thrown out as being clearly illegal. And so these made a net gain of 80 for Deane. However, he lost 79 in Richmond county by the recount, oni n this left him one vote OliU " gainer thereby reducing the Burgin original majority down . from 74 to 73. However, some 40 Absentees in Montgomery county are still in dispute, and affidavits have been filed with the State Board whih i-f allnwpri wrmlrt throw out 40 more Burgin votes.
