Walter Covington, Jr. and Ray mond White accompanied Dr. Reid Garrett to Cherry Grove Beach on Wednesday. Miss Pat Monroe Entertains at Jackson Springs The Monroe Cottage at Jack son Springs was the scene of a very delightful affair evening of Julv 16th, when Miss Pat Mon roe entertained from 9 to 12 p. m. at an informal reception and miscellaneous shower in honor of Mr. and Mrs. Lacey Patterson, recently married couple of Jack son Springs. Outstanding features of the evening's program were the find ine of many useful and beautiful gifts by Mr. and Mrs. Patterson, which were enmeshed in a tangle of silken threads which extended throughout the house and yard, and the cutting of the beautiful double tier white wedding cake, from which the guests drew many unusual favors. The cottage was decorated with summer flowers and colored bal loons. Block cream and cake was served, also delicious fruit punch to the hundred guests who avail ed themselves of Miss Monroe's charming hospitality. Miss Margaret Edmundson of Raleigh, and Miss Mary Eliza beth Wellons of Smithfield, came Tuesday to visit until Friday at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Claude Gore on North Randolph Street. The home was simply decorated in sum mer flowers for the ceremony, which was performed by Rev. Bruce Benton, pastor of the bride, in the presence of mem bers of the two immediate families. Miss Elisabeth Joyner Brew er, of Gaff ney, S. C., aunt of the bride, rendered the bridal music. The bride entered with her father, Claude Gore. The croom was attended by his cousin, William C. Leak, as best man. The bride wore a dress of white embroidered organdy with white accessories and a corsage nf orchids. Mrs. Parsons is the elder daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Claude Gore. After finishing Rockingham High School, she was graduated from West- hampton College, University of Richmond. For the past three years she has been a member of the faculty of Great Falls school here. The groom is the son of the late Walter L. and Manie Leak Parsons, of Rockingham. He was graduated from North Car olina State College, and is now a member of the firm of Leak Parsons Co Following the ceremony, the bride's mother, Mrs. Claude Gore, entertained at a two course luncheon to about 50 guests, these being: Mrs. W. Ledbetter left July 19th, for the Veterans Hospital at Oteen for treatment. . Evelyn and Lillie Faye Mills are visiting relatives in Spartan burg and Jonesville, S. C. Judge and Mrs. F. D. Phillips and young son, Donald, left on Wednesday for Myrtle Beach. Ed. Douglass, of Greensboro, was a week-end guest of the D. L.. Coppedge home the past weekend. Miss Annie Louise and Watt Cole, Jr., of Greensboro arrived in the city Wednesday afternoon to visit relatives. WATKINS-CASHION Married July 10th at Marston. youn Miss Hattie Belle Cashion and William Nelson Watkins were married Sunday, July 10th, at the Manse of the Presbyterian church at Marston. Rev. A. T. Taylor officiated, with Mrs. Taylor playing the wedding music. The bride and bridegroom en tered together, the bride wear ing a dress of navy blue chiffon with white accessories and a shoulder boquet of white roses and valley lilies. Mrs. Watkins is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Lee Cashion of Marston. She re ceived a diploma from the sec-; retarial school of Flora Mac- donald college, in Red Springs. For the last two years she has held a position with the J. E. Covington Insurance agency in Rockingham. Mr. Watkins is a son of Mrs. Lizzie Watkins and the late George Watkins of Ellerbe, and holds a position with Mclnnis Rummage Motor company in Rockingham, where " the couple will make their home. Ed. Kennedy of Washington, Ga., arrived in the city Saturday afternoon to join Mrs. Kennedy, who is with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. M. H. Fowlkes.
