Christmas is such a good time for remembering blessings that have come to us through the years thankful for friends and loved ones who meant and have gone on. Rut esneciallv should we be thankful for those still with us, and we should let then know that appreciate them. Let's do that this Christmas and say from the depths of nnr hearts. You who see Dinah Shore each week on NBC's live show (for Chev rolet) would never dream that as a little girl she had polio which for six years threatened the full use of hep right foot. ....She can skip about blithely now, and her velveteen vibrato caresses the lyrics of "Sentimental Journey" every week. . . . .Dinah is married to Cowboy Actor George (Lone Gun) Montgomery, and they have a daughter and a son. She was born in 1918 at Winchester, Tennessee, was aj cheerleader at Vanderbilt and graduated there in 1938, a sociology major. She became a blonde in 1944. Now at 40 she is one of the TV hits and her fans claim there is no one finahp. . . .She got her stage name of "Dinah Shore" because when she was a little girl in grade 'school in Winchester, her schoolmates wovld taunt her wHtf "Fanny sat on a tack. Fanny rose? Shore." haven't got "What you don't know may not hurt you but what you suspect can be awfully disturl bing.' For many years Mrs. John D. Leak at Wadesbpro has sent me each Christmas a delicious box of beaten biscuits. Miss Effie died April 8, 1957, lacking a month of beingj 90. But the custom was not allowed to lapse. On December 2st the usual box of those biscuits came made and sent by her daughter Kate Leak Dnnlap. . . .Many renewals for 1958 as Christmas gifts. Among them $4 from Mrs. Dr. Ed Sutton for 'the paper to continue to his parents, Pittman and Ciennie Sutton at 209 N. Candler street, Decatur, Georgia. Once success ful he owes it to the Bureau of Internal Revenuk" TV viewers down this way will regret that the 10-minute nightly Spannorama program is being abandonee!, by WBTV, effective December 25th. Owen Spann has made that program a sprightly and folksy one, a high spot between boug Mayes 6:30 newscast and the Arthur Smith half-hour. Spann has a host of fans who hope WBTV will see fit to re-instate the pro gram, ! Back in December, 1934, a paper here offered cash prize for the most original letters on "Why I Trade with Home Merchants.". The top prize was won by J. C. Brock, a Negro section-band working with the Rockingham Railroad. Now 23 years later his letter is interesting; here it is las "writ:" "Mr. Editor and Manager: I trades with Mr. Moss Brothers cause Mr. Mess Brothers hauls his frate over the Rockingham railroad and t for the railroad.
