Similar payments are pay able to dependent husbands if the wife qualifies as a disabled worker and is getting monthly benefit checks. Amendments passed by Congress in August, 1958, make these payments to dependents possible. The change In the law was de signed to provide benefits to certain family members of dis abled workers under substan tially' the same rules as pay ments to the dependents of a retired worker. In brief, if a dis abled worker is entitled to draw benefits and his wife is at least 62 years of age, she too may be entitled to receive monthly pay ments. If the wife is under 62 years of age but has a child un der age 18, or a disabled child of any ;age in her care, both she and the child may be entitled to receive monthly payments. New Law Extends . Veteran Pensions - A new law approved August 29 extends and modifies pen sions payable to veterans of World Wars I and II and the Korean conflict. Congressman A Paul Kitchin was one - of the supporters of the act. Benefits are payable to a vet eran and,, after his death, to his surviving widow and dependent children. The veteran must have had at least 90 days active ser vice during the hostilities and an honorable discharge. The new act sets up a sliding" scale of pension amounts accord ing to the income of the veteran and his dependent survivors. A veteran with $600 income or less a year is entitled to $85 a month if single, $90 a month with one dependent, $95 with two and $100 a month with three or more. Income $600 to $1,200 yearly re duces the pension monthly to $70 single, $75 one dependent or more, while $1,200 to $1,800 in come cuts the amount to $40 single and $45 one dependent or more. A surviving widow of a quali fied veteran with $600 or less income may get $60 a month if single, $75 with one child; in come $600 to $1,200, $45 single and $60 with one child, and in come $1,200 to $1,800, $25 single and $40 with one child, these increased $15 per month for each additional child.
