: Bxkery .'and the Parmer's Al- -'. ; . Hanca. - - ' jFrom the Fayetteville Observer. Col. Dockery is reported as hav ing eaid in his speech at Nashville, ithat if Capt. S. B.f Alexander had been U nominated tor uovernor, on Aha Democratic ticKet,that he would .not; nave accepted me lwpuuucuu ommatidn . And the Itockinsrharn Rocket says that ho made a similar statement before the Pee Dee Alli ance. The statement . only shows .that Col. Dockery is trying to use the Partners' Alliance as he doeslhe negroes, for Col. ' Dockery as a sup porter of the Republican Party must ,be a Protectionist, which is in direct .opposition to the principles of the Farmer's Alliance. . The .National Farmers! Alliance which . met at Shreveport, Louisiana, early in the year, passed unanimously the fol lowing resolutions : "That in view of the fact that the delegates to this body represent a majority of the cotton producers of the cotton belt of.. America which belt produces over two-thirds of the cotton oT. iho whole world," and irt -view ui me iuriuer mvi mat iwo- thirds of the cotton in the cottQD belt is demanded and used for ex port to a foreign power, which .fixes the price on every pound of our cot ton and in view of the.factthat the .said power is debarred from return ing to this country a single yard of manuiactured cotton, thereby mak ing saia power interested m crowd ing down to the lowest figure the price of cotton; we hereby de mand that the U. S. Government adopt a speedy system of reduction on the import duty on'manfactured cottons, in such a way as to do jus tice to this, the greatest or! all classes 0t producers. We demand such a revision of the tariff as will lay the heaviest bur dens on the luxuries and the light est on the necessaries of life ; and as will reduce the, incomes from im ports to a strictly revenue basis. And at the Inter-State Convention pf farmers which met in Atlanta, a., August 16, 1887, the following Resolution passed that body and it is sound doctrine. Besoloed, That we demand of the Government of the United States a uuanciai poncy mat win cease hoarding unbounded wealth in our National Treasury, thereby holding the rate of taxation above the needs of Government and the ability the people, and depriving us of just, amount of circulating medium." Are these resolves of no moment do they mean nothing? Surely po Democratic farmer can Vote for him, no, not even a Republican who belongs to the Alliance and ia true to his principles. Besides -this, the farmers; know full well that it means to place a Republican in of fice. jThey have tasted .the bjtter fruit, and surely want no more of it.
