Webb annouueedat Ellerbe last Friday that on account of the ill health of his wife he would be unable to make the can vass of the county, and thejefore, he decided to withdrawfrom the race entirelv for Representative. This leaves only two candidates for that office, Messrs Warburton and Dockery, and they have been making the canvass in the same buggy. The date fixed at which entries to the primaries must cloe was Tuesday, the 29th. The nomina tion, therefore, of W. S. Tnomas for Register of Deeds, W.C. Leak, E. C. Terry and E. D. Whitlock for Commissioners, Daniel Gay for Coroner and Neill A. Graham for Surveyor, is'assured, as they have no opponents. This is quite complimentary to them, and par ticularly to Mi. It Gets Another Large Enterprise -Southern Cotton Seed Delinting Company Organized A Plant with a Capacity of Forty Tons a Day will Make Rockingham a Good Market for Cotton Seed. Articles of incorporation were issued on last Saturday to the Southern Cotton Seed Delinting Company, of Rockingham. The capital stock is placed at $50,000, with privilege of beginning busi ness when $5,000 is subscribed The charter gives authority to dejint cotton seed, buy the un delinted and sell the delinted pro duct and the lint, buy, gin, manu facture and sell cotton, establish cotton seed ml mills and carry on a general mercantile business. The incorporation is for sixty years, and the incorporators are Messrs. H. S. Ledbetter, James. P. Leak, R. S. Ledbetter and W. C. Leak It is probable that the company when fully organized will put in a plant witV a - capacity of about forty tons per day. The machine which they will use is a recent in vention which takes every par ticle of lint from the seed and puis them in condition forexport. They have had some of the machines in operation here some time and, have given them a thorough test, which has been satisfactory. This is an important new enter prise for Rockingham, and. will place our town on an equal foot ing with any other as a market for cotton 6eed. " This makes the third addition for this year to our large manufactur ing interest. ROBERDEL NEWS. Misses Martha Thrower and Hattie Smith are visiting friends at Star, N. C Robert and Ben Dobbin are visiting their grandmother in McDowell county. The mill has been stopped for the past few days. Some repairs are being done on the flumes, etc. The bridge across Leak branch, which has been down for some time, has been rebuilt and wagons can now pass. We regret to say that Rev.,' S. E. Mercer has been quite sick" for several days with fever. We hope le may soon recover. Miss Esther Auman,of Raeford, s visiting Miss LenaLoflin. All the candidates spoke here ast Saturdiy night, and 'they, all seem to be hopeful of election. The school here will open Aug. iSth. Prof. W. L. Cridlebaugh will be back by that time.
