When it comes to whole heart ed, genuine, enthusiastic retreat ing, you have to hand it to the Russians. President Wilson will literally "make Congress sweat" if he calls them together in extraor dinary session now. We can tell every time the heat waves hit Greenborj by the delirious mutterings of the Greensboro Daily News about the Climate! We know there are some peo ple in this town who are able to take a Chautauqua ticket and will not, but we are heartily ashamed of it. We are harassed by doubt apd fear; a prey to melancholy in its deep and direst form, steeped in suspicion and dismal foreboding that-our bonnet may not get a week of "seven joyous days" days during which one after another of this country's most brilliant lecturers, most talented artists and most gifted perform ers will come to this community to amuse, entertain and instruct our people. Chautauqua is an opportunity afforded only a few towns in this State, an opportunity that dues not come every day nor every year and it behooves every man, woman and child in this community to derive as much benefit, pleasure and entertain ment as possible during this week from the Chautauqua pro gram. We believe a majority of our people understand and appreciate the Chautauqua ideal, but for the benefit of those who do not, we will state that Chautauqua was originally formed to edu cate and broaden, and incidental ly to amuse and entertain, the people gathering every summer at Chautauqua Lake, New York.
