Singing and Repar tee Elicits Frequent Applause . The minstrel given at the Peoples Theatre last Tuesday j night for the benefit of the' Poanoke Papids Paseball Club! made imxiiI in every sense of the i word - artistically, and what is more to the point, financially, although it is thought that more t iur H mh advertising would have brought out an even larger crowd than was present. To say the local artists justi fied the expectations of the and- i ience would be putting it mildly: thev far surpassed it. Theend men ('a.; , 'f c,., ' l Pong, Ileywood Cherry, M. McPae Faison, and Wm. Towe, Jr., performed beautifully, bringing out a good deal of original repartee and local jokes. The singing was verv eood indeed, practically all of the artists receiving handsome encores, Mr. J. M. Jackson re- ceiving two enthusiastic en- cores over his number, Norinsky and Goldman in a "little queer talk" got off a good deal of original humor, and the singing of the quartette composed of Messrs. Manning, Price, Johnson, and King was exceptionally good. Byrd-Francis Friends in Poanoke Rapids ave received invitations reading as follows: Mr. iiinl Mr-.
