The fact that he la a mum Ik r cf the community make much difference to him when he considers that the proaperlty of our town Ir hit own prosperity. But when be tends his money to tho mall order houses HE DOES NOT STOP TO THINK THAT HE 13 NOT HEU'INO TO PAY THE REQVIRKD TAXES IN HIS OWN COMMUNITY; not that he doea not pay his own legally aseaaed taxea, but that be la not helping our local merchants to pay the taieo aces nary to aupport the community. Tne mall order man haa abso'utely no lntereat In the community. Ho playe the part of t fisherman strolling about, casting a line hero and there, whore ho Oilnka the boat fishing la to bo found, and after pulling out the flan ho departav The moll order man doea not contribute to tho upkeep of tho community. Ho merely takes away f .-om It When (armor aende his dollars to the mall order house he prerenta certain amount of Improvementa, say, for Instance, In road building, here In our county. The mall order man doea not help to build our roods, but tho loco) storekeeper doea. If wo hoop tho dollars at home they will keep on helping ua all. Dollars, epent at homo, oomo homo to roost. They come back In tho upkeep of our1 town and county Institutions We have none too many dollars at the moat In our community and It eeeme a shame to aend any of them away to tho mall order houses, where we will never oeo them ogaln. The dollars wo aend aay help the mail order man to take a vacation In Europe or at the seashore. THEY HELP HIM TO MAINTAIN HtS AUTO MOBILE AND TO RIDE ON PAVED ROADS. If we keep those same dollars at home thpy will help us to have better mads In our own county. Of course, the mall order man pays his taxes In the city, which helps to pa1'" the etret?ts of the city, but we here In our town don't benefit by that Therefore, the best thing for us to do la keej our money at home, where It will do ue some good. OUR LOCAL MERCHANTS WILL t'SE THE DOLLARS TO OOOD AD VANTAGE DY HELP1NO TO PAY THE TAXES HERE THE TAXES RE QUIRED TO BHLD OOOD ROADS EVEHY DOLLAR SPENT IN OCR HOME TOWN MEANS IMPROVEMENTS AT HOME. The morchanta of our town deserve the patronage of tho people In our community. They are a part, a very large part, of the community and thoy pay a major portion of the taxea. The more hua'nesa they do tho more taxea they must pay and the more taxea paid into tho county treasury, tho mora Improvementa wo can have. Unless we are careful and watch our own interests we will And out to our coat that tho ultimate result of the mall order scheme will be the cen tralization of all of the country business in the larpe cities and the absoluto destruction of the financial Interests in the small cities and towns. The only nay to prevent this Is to atop sendini; our orders to the malt ordnr housea. Let tho dollars come homo to roost. That la the only way, and they will come homo to rooot If we do not send them too far away. The dollars spent, locally will circle around and keep things lively, but If sent away wa must get mora dollars from outalda to take their place. It la not alwaya an easy matterto do this. THE SAFtST THING TO DO IS TO TAKE NO CHANCES, UT TO SPEND THEM AT HOME WITH THE LOCAL STOREKEEPERS. If we had any expectation that the mall order man would ever do any thing to help our community, things might be different, flut there Is no chance. II comes to ua In the garb of an artful deceiver, with gross mis representations, false promises and a record of disappointments. Hut wa welcome the opportunity to again place ourselves on record as being hie dupes. There Jsn't o grain of kindness In his whole makeup. He demands his cash In advance and gives you that which he wishes to aend. You have no redress. You have no rights that ha Is bound to respect. Tho more fact that wo are silly enough to send our monty away, out of our own community, to stranger, thereby Injuring our own business pros pacta and Jeopardizing our own prosperity, Justifies him In believing that ho can take tho moat outragoouo llbertlea with us. Broad east on tho water will return, not so with dollars sent to tho mail order house. Turkey will come borne to roost. If somebody doea not catca BUT DOLLARS WILL COME IN CIRCULATION IN OUR HOME $1.50 a Year in Advance RO ANOKE COTILLION CUB GIVES IMPROMPTU DANCE A nuist delightful dance was given by the Roanoke Cottillion Club on last Friday from 8:30 to 11:30.
