The children from Halifax group met in Halifax last Friday to com pete for prizes in Story Telling and Reading. The Roanoke Rap ids and Rosemary children made a most creditable showing. . . i liel- en Allsbrook, and Hazel Cobb won prizes for this school. Oil Board of Coauaiuioa m witk Addition ol L I Mosker Reaosuaalea1 LITTLE FACTIONAL FEELING One of the quietest Town Democratic Primaries experienc ed in Roanoke Rapids in some time was held at the Lyric Theatre on last Monday evening. The primary was called to order by Mr. A. L. Clark. Chair man of the town Democratic Executive Committee, who brief ly outlined the purpose of the primary, which was to nominate candidates fir Major and Five Commissioners. Mr. M. McRae Faison was elected permanent Chairman and J. T. Stainback Secretary. Messrs. W. C. Allsbrook. J. F. Welch, and E. II. Ricks were appointed tellers and Judges of Election. The resolutions of the Town Democratic Executive Committee prescribing a vote by ballot were adopted unanimously by the primary. Mr. J. T. Chase was placed in nomination for Mayor by Mr. W. S. Hockaday. Mr. W. C. Allsbrook nominated Dr. T. W. M. Long, and then J. W. Taylor, both of whome declined to stand. Mr. W. K. Dickens then nomi nated Mr. A. E. Akers, who was ineligible for nomination as he holds the office of Superintendent of Public Instruction. Mr. Dickens then nominated Mr. W. G. Lynch after which the nominations were closed. The ballot resulted in the nomination of Mr. Chase by a vote of 87 to 37. Mr. A. E. Akers nominated the present Board of Commis sioners substituting for Mr. J. T. Chase. Mr. E. H. Ricks. Mr. W. C. Allsbrook placed in nomina tion Messrs. J. K. Dickens. W.S. Hancock, M. D. Collier. L O. Anderson, and W. S. Hockaday. Mr. J. F. Welsh placed Mr. L. S. Mosher in nomination, and the ballot was then taken as follows; W. P. Taylor 71 S. J. Bounds 64 L. S. Mosher 59 W. E. Woodroof 55 J. T. Stainback 54 E. H. Ricks 42 W. S. Hancock 31 J. K. M. Long, of Weldon. and grand-daughter of Mr. Thomas W. Mason, of Northampton, was married to Dr. Fontaine Graham Jarman. of Rosemary. The Rev. Mr. Lewis Taylor, of Roanoke Rapids, officiated. Miss Lizzie Miller Jarman. of Elkton. Va.. was maid of honor, and her dress was of white tulle and silver, and she carried armful of white sweet peas, tied with white tulle. Mrs. W. L. Fitzhugh, attended the dance in Weldon Friday night Mrs. Mary Janes Mrs. Mary James, died at her home in the Patterson Mills Village on last Monday, April 23, in the sixty fifth year of her age. ' Mrs. James has been a resident of this community for five or six ! years and is well known here. She is survived by two children. Mr. William James, of Roanoke ! Rapids, and Mrs. Frank S pence of the Patterson Mills Village. ' The funeral services were con-1 ducted on Tuesday, by Rev. A. i H. Andrews, of the Rosemary ! Methodist Church. Interment took place in the Roanoke Rapids Cemetary. j Mrs. James was a devout; Christian, a devoted mother, aj kindfnend. Her death will be j a distinct loss to her many menus m mis community.
