We have not been reporting the marriages performed recent ly, but for your information will say that we are keeping up our "rep" of being "the marrying parson". Our business has not slowed down. On a recent Sunday we had eight additions to 'the church, four at the morning service and four more at the night service. Third Sunday morning there were five additions to the church. The work is prospering. Our building is large and yet it will hardly accommodate the number of people who attend the even ing service. Mrs. Pittman, of Whitakers, was a recent visitor at the home of hr parents Mr. and Mrs. Ed. Carter. Saturday evening Mar. 22, at eight o'clock there was a meet ing of the High School Literary Society in the School Auditorium the following program was car ried out: Song, "Columbia Gem of the Ocean"; Prayer; Duet "Long ago", Margaret and Viola Ilea; Recitation, Eula Glasgow; Reading "Hieronymous Pop", Nannie Pigg; Community Spell ing Match; Presentation of prize for speller, Miss Pigg; Address Rev. Wm: Towe; America and Benediction. The chief feature of the even ing was the Blue Back spelling match under the competent Cap tains, Miss Essie Liles and Fannie Towe. Quite a number of parents, pupils, and teacners participated, Mr. Charlie Patter son had the distinction of being the last to stand on Miss Liles side; snd some one remarked they thought he could spell as well as fight Germans, (He is just home from France) Then Miss Fannie Towe and Mr. Horace Robinson had to fight it out with due delibera tion they took aim and fired at old Blue-Back's treacherous reg iment It reminded one of ye olden times to see this tall, young fellow and slender little lass spelling as if their lives depend ed on it Just as we had settled back to listen until the wee small hours, Mr. Robinson lost his nerve and went down under, the blow of a sharp word, leaving little Fannie victorious. The debate with Roanoke Rap ids has been postponed until a little later. There will be a group teachers meeting at Aureuan Springs Mar. 28. Teachers will please be on hand early. There will be services at Tabor the fifth Sunday by Rev. Nich olson. Epworth League will meet on the fifth Sunday evening at eight r. M, in the school Au ditorium. So far as the public knows said "friendship" had ran along smoothly until recently when another party began to attract the attention of Herbert; immediately friendly rela tions between the' rivals were broken, and this art of hating diligently cultivated by Lena, (So ran the testimony.) Pretty soon war was declared; the first meeting after said action occurred Thursday afternoon of last week at the crossing of Roanoke Ave. and the railroad below the river hill. Whereupon complimentary (T) remarks were exchanged and a fight ensued, during which a pistol fell to the ground from its place of concealment in the cloth ing of Myriah Jones, the other womsn in the esse, who picked up the pistol and placed it in its original hiding place w'thout attempting to use it The appearance of the gun seemed to reduce the fighting temperment of Lena and she came up town and swore out a warrant against Myriah. The trial was held Friday night and after hearing the tes timony of the various witnesses Recorder Saunders changed the warrant so as to include both parties and fined Lena $15 and half the costs, Myriah contribut ed $10 and the other half of the costs.
