As aU of the older residents know we opened business some ten or twelve years ago, with oniy a small stock of goods, and steadily increased our business untii now we have one of the biggest lines of merchandise in the county. There must be a reason for this and we believe the rea son is because we have strived hard to please by giving ser vice and value for every dollar spent at our place. Balote has connected the concrete on the Cabe Hiil, and will move his road machin ery back to just below the mouth of Pumkin Creek within the next ten days and it is stated that the road will be completed about the middle of July if the weather is favorable. PROF. GIBBS AT HEAD OF SYLVA GRADED SCHOOL Prof. J. U. Gibbs has been re-elect ed as the principal of the Sylva grad ed school for the coming year. Professor Gibbs and his splendid faculty did splendid work last year and it is expected that when the fac ulty is completed and school opens this fall that greater things will be done this year than last. Allen was a member of the Allen gang which shot up the Hillsville court room nearly two decades ago and for which two members of the gang paid the supreme penalty. Mr. James Mason who has accepted a position with the Piedmont Electric Co., was in town Saturday and Sun day visiting homefolks. Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Connor and Mrs. M. B. Conner motored to Asheville Monday. Misis Rachel Watkins of Asheville spent Sunday with Mr and Mrs. J. C. Connor. Mr. Mack Jarrett spent a few days this week in Woodroe on business. MRS. McNEILL ENTERTAINS CLUB A call meeting of the Twentieth CenLury Club was held on Thursday afternoon at the. home of Mrs. W. A. McNeill. Mrs. C. C. Buchanan the president presided. Reports from the State Convention were given on dif ferent phases by members who at tended. Mrs. L. C. Hall reported on "The First Evening of the Conven tion." Mrs. Ben Queen on "American Homes" while Mrs. B. S. Marsh on a luncheon, which she attended where American Homes were discussed. Mrs. C. B. Robinson's report was "Art and Music," which was very in teresting. The Ciub is planning to give a play on May 28th, "The Flapper Grand mother" for the benefit of beautifying the High School grounds. Mrs. McNeill served a salad course. MRS. J. H. WILSON HOSTESS TO W. M. S. The Woman's Missionary Society of the Methodist church met with Mrs. J. H. Wilson on Tuesday after noon. Mrs. J. H. Cathey led the devo tional and was in charge of the pro gram, the subject bt%hg "Foreign Missions in the' Homeland." Mrs. Cathey was assisted b%r Mesdames J. C. Hall, E. L. McKee/ J. R. Buchanan and D. M. Hall. Plans were made for buying a piano for the Junior depart ment of the Sunday School Depart ment. A delicious course of refresh ments were served. EIGHTY-FOUR DAIRY COWS Eighty-four Jersey cows valued at about seven thousand dollars have been shipped into this county under the direction of County Farm Agent Tilson and the Agricultural Depart ment of the State. This means that there will be about ten thousand dollars worth of butter fat shipped out of this county with in the next twelve months and that is just a beginning of what will be done within the next two or three years. Many farmers are starting docks of hens and preparing to raise a number of hogs. These chickens and hogs will be fed principally with the skhuimd milk.
