FORTNIGHTLY CLUB MEETS Mrs. H. E. Buchanan entertained the Fortnightly Club Friday after noon at her home on Main street. Af ter the business session, bridge was enjoyed. Mrs. Buchanan's guests for the bridge were Mrs. Ayers, of Akron Ohio who is spending the sumpier with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. D. L. Bryson. Mrs. Dan Allison and Mrs.B, S. Marsh. Mrs. Buchanan served her guests with a salad and ice course. U. D. C. MEETS WITH MRS. ENLOE Mrs. S. W. Enloe was hostess to the W. A. Enloe Chapter of the United Daughters of the Confederacy at her home in Dillsboro on Wednesday of last week. The meeting was opened with a song followed by Scripture reading by the Chaplain, Mrs. J. L. Broyles. Mrs. .J. J. Hooker the president pre sided over the business 'session. The program on Jefferson Davis was given Three interesting papers were given by Mrs. C. Z. Candler, Lewis Cannon and P. W. Kincaid. A delicious salad and ice course was served. MISS OLIVER GIVES CAMPING PARTY One of the most delightful camping parties of the season was that given by Miss Ruth Oliver to a number cf friends last week-eno. Mr. and Mrs. J, F. Freeze chaperoning the party. They motored up to 1 ake Fairfield and camped on the shore of the lake where they enjoyed boating, swimming and other sport. They also visited High lands, High Hamptoit, and a trip upon Whiteside Mountain. The party was composed of Misses Maudine Allen, Irene Cathey, Evelyn Campbell, Mary Allison, Ruth and Irene Oliver, Margaret Freeze, Llew ellyn Rhodes and Docia Garrett, Messrs. Gilmer Moody, Jeif Trotter, Alec Stillwell, Ernest Monteith, Carl Fisher, Frank Freeze, Allen Borden and Mr. Long. BRIDGE CLUB MEETS WITH MRS. ALLEY Mrs. F. E. Alley Jr. was hostess to the Friday Bridge Club on last Fri day afternoon at her home on Jackson street. The tables were beautifully arran ged for playing. The members present were Mesdames D. E. Murray, D. M. Hall, Enloe Moore, Dan Allison, C. C. Buchanan, E. Ford King, B. S. Marsh and-Thompson. MISS CANDLER HOSTESS to CLUB \ - On Thursday afternoon of last week the Twentieth Century Club met with Miss Margaret Candler at her home on Main street. Mrs. C. C. Buchanan, the president, presided. The meeting was opened by the singing of The Club Women's song. It was decided that the club will give a rummage sale in the near future at which time they will sell second hand furniture and other second hand arti cles. The program was unusually in teresting. Mrs. Enloe Moore gave a review of the year's work on "Amer 7 ican Literature," Miss Hannah Moore having "Leading Literary Magazines" for her subject.^ < Miss Candler served an ice course. The next meeting will be with Mrs. H. C. Evans. " MISS HAMPTON BRIDE OF MR. THOMAS A wedding which will come as a great surprise to friends was that of Miss Duetta Hampton and Mr. A. B. Thomas, both of Hot Springs, Ark., which was solemnized Sunday June 13 at 10 o'clock, at the home of the bride. Mr. and Mrs. Thomas left immedi ately on a wedding journey by motor and will be at home on their return at Hot Springs. * The bride is the attractive daughter of Mr. and Mrs. A. H. Hampton. The bridegroom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Thomas. He will be remembered by many friends as hav ing attended Sylva Collegiate Insti tute and being the grandson of Rev. A. B. Thomas and Mr. and Mrs. A. B. Dills. MRS. McNEILL HONORS MRS. RHYNE On last Friday afternoon Mrs. W. A. McNeill entertained, about twenty four of her friends, honoring Mrs. Joseph Rhyne of DeLand, Florida. Bridge was enjoyed throughout the afternoon. Mrs. H. E. Buchanan won top score while Mrs. J. R. Buchanan won low. Mrs. Rhyne was presented a lovely guest prize. ^ Those playing were Misses Doro thy McKee, Mayme Long, Lillie Ev erett, Mesdames Walter Allen Jr., G. W. Wilkes, E. Ford King, Joe Rhyne, Enloe Moore, E. L. McKee, F. E. Al ley Jr., Dan Allison, H. E. Buchanan, M. Buchanan Jr., and J. R. Buchanan. The tea guests were Mesdames E. E. Bain, Ernest Keener, Misses Inez Sullivan, Hannah Moore and Ruth Allison. MRS. E. FORD KING ENTERTAINS Wednesday afternoon, Mrs. E. Ford King was hostess at a lovely bridged party, entertaining at her home on Jackson street in compliment to Mrs. Joseph Shyne of DeLand, Fla., and* Mrs. E. E. Bain of Greensboro. Three tables were beautifully arranged for playing. Mrs. W. A. McNeill won top score while Mrs. Enloe Moore low. Each guest was presented a box of candy as favors. At the conclusion of the game refreshments were served. The invited guests besides the honoree were Mesdames J. L. Dillard, E. L. McKee, C. C. Buchanan, Enloe Moore, F. E. Alley, Jr., H. E.
