MISS SHIRLEY JEAN MEW WEDS JIMMY ROY ROGERS SUNDAY IN TABOR CITY BAPTIST CHURCH Miss Shirley Jean Mew and Jimmy Roy Rogers were united in marriage Sunday, September 2. at 5 p. m. in the Tabor City Baptist Church. The Rev. P. C. Gantt. pastor of the bride, offi ciated using the double ring ceremony. The bride is the si.ster of List on Mew of Tabor City and her parents are Mr. and Mrs. J. M. Mew of route 2. Tabor City. The bridegroom is the .-on of Mr. and Mrs. Rembert Roy Rogers.. Jr. of Tabor City. Woodwardia ferns, Kenita palms and seven branched can delabra formed the backkround for arrangements of pink and green leaf Caladium plants and baskets of white chrysanthe mums and white gladioli. Two circular candelabras holding sixteen tapers completed the church decorations. Music was presented by Mrs. Furman J. Fowler, organist, and Miss Patsy Ward, vocalist, both I of Tabor City. Miss Ward's se lections included "I Love Thee" by Grieg. "Because by ci'Harde log. and for the benediction she sang "A Wedding Prayer" by Dunlap. Mrs. Fowler played the traditional wedding marches and several selections including "Love's Old Sweet Song" and "Through The Years" from the organ chimes. I The bride given in marriage by her brother, Liston Mew, wore a gown of chantilly lace and nylon tulle over taffeta. The lace bodice was fashioned with long tapered sleeves that ended in points over the hands with a mandrain neckline The bouf fant skirt, with b.mds of scal loped lace, ended in a sweep train. Her full circular veil of imported silk illusion was at tached to a half hat of shirred tulle with lace si eaves at the sides embroidered in seed pearls. She tarried a cascade bouquet of v. lute stephanotis centered with white orchids. Mrs. Listen Mew, sister-is law of the bride, was matron.« honor. She wore a floor lengt gown of gold satin and tull The strapless satin bodice ws fashioned with a shirred bus! line of tulle and matching stol< The bouffant skirt featured a apron effect of satin in the fror that draped in the back formin a bustle. Bridesmaids were Mrs. Bo Rogers, sister-in-law of th bridegroom of Raleigh, Mi: Shelba Jean Hux of Columbi and Tabor City. Mrs. Williai Brewer. The bridegroom was iiraduat ed from the Tabor City High School as "Mr. Tabor City Hi" and is a rising senior at the Lnivcrsitv of North Carolina where he is president of Phi Mu Alpha, a musical fraternity. He is majoring in radio and tel evision at the university and he and his bride will res ι tie ·η Chapel Hill. Reception Follows ι Metv-Rogers Wedding Ceremony Following the ceremony unit ing Miss Shirley Jean Mew anc Jimmy Roy Rogers in marriagt Sunday afternoon a receptioi was hold by Mr and Mrs Lestci Scott Parham and lister Par ham at their home after whict the bridal couple left for a wed ding trip. For traveling Mrs. Rogers chose an ensemble of cham pagne doupioni silk with a fit ted jacket. The dress was fash ioned with a scoop neckline and ,cap sleeves and the lull skirt fell from a lougated waistline She pinned an orchid from her bridal bouquet at her shoulder md used matching accessories. Re<l roses were artistically ar ranged in the living room where ! the wedding party received guests. Mrs. W. W. Woody greet ed guests at the door and Mrs. Il'arh:im introduced to the re ceiving line. Mrs. Albert Sehold directed to the gift room where Mrs, Ralph W. Spivey and Mrs. I.ydia Garrell presided. Mrs. W. H. Shelley, Sr. kept the register. The refreshment table, ar ranged on the back porch, was overlaid with a white linen cloth and decorated with a bowl of pink roses and silver and crystal hurrican lamps. Wrought iron sconces and hoops completed the decorations on the porch. Mrs. Bill Hickman poured punch and Mrs. Winston Gore and Mrs. G. S. Cox ser^-d brid al ices, mints and nuts.
