Wednesday night and the new point system for highway safety .was outlined. Among the program's features now underway is the strafet« of certain violations during spe cific weeks. This week has been designated as special emphasii week on persons failing to stop at stop signs. Patrolmen have pointed out that this is one of the majoi causes of highway accidents and deaths. Corporal Hoffler. of the high way patrol in Columbus county pointed out to the group at last week's meeting that Webster de Ifines "Stop" as "Cease Motion" and that is what he and his pat rolmen -will go by in enforcing the law. More than 400 North Carolina [municipalities will share in the total distribution of $6,766^)9?. 58. This represents a four per cent increase over the moniei distributed last year. Seven members attended the called meeting and voted to do nate approximately $3,400 for {equipping a hospital in Tabor :City. With the action to donate the money, which is the first Kontribution toward the hospital, jthe Legion unofficially dis !banded. Unless future action Is ; taken to reorganize the Legion it will be officially disbanded at the end of this year. The money donated last night tu the hospital cause was the Legion's portion of the money I received from the sale of the old Legion Hut several months ago. A drive has been underway for quite some time to get i* hospit il project approved for Tabor City. Surveys have been mace, petitions garnered and other preliminary work has been in the making. The Legion, defunct for the past live or six years, had rep resented last night: Frank Ne smith. Krank McGougan, G. L. Doiman. Billy Dorman, John Dorman, B. F. Long and Worth Hardee. Should the hospital movement fail to become a reality then the money donated last night by the Legion would revert in five years to the trustees who are G. L. Dorman, Worth Hardee and Frank McGougan. The other members at the meeting were named alternate trustees in event that a vacancy should oc ~ur due to death.
