ON WESTERN FRONT
'"-...ft.---".-"
London, April 17. After gaining
a footing today in the villages of
Meteren and Wytschaete, the British
were forced to make a second re
tirement, according to Field Mar
shal Haig's report from France to-
II! Jit.
French troops it was added, have
now reinforced the British lines.
The text of the statement reads:
"This morning intense bombard
ments were opened by the enemy
on practically the whole of the Lys
battle front, and from the forest of
Nippe to Wytschaete were followed
by infantry attacks. All these at
tacks have been repulsed and con-;
siderable losses inflicted on the
enemy. . . !
"In counter-attacks, reported in
the morning communique, our
troops succeeded in entering th
tillages of Meteren and Wytschaete,
but in the face of continued lustily
attacks, were unable, to maintain
our position there.
"French troops are co-operating
with the British on this front.
"On the remainder of the British
front there is nothing to report."

TACKK PARTY AT DILLSBORO
The Ladies Sewing Circle had an
unusual program at their last meet

Mrs. L. V. Brock, as each member
tried their best to be dressed as
tacky as possible.
When the guests began to arrive
quite a bit of excitement was caus

members. Among those reDresent-
