The general orders of the 1-Vcneli Army of Occupation is: "Bovs get the money." , I ) "Money Shortage Is Great Factor In All Dealings." We have certainly always found it so. > Apparently Governor Morrison does not fret along weil with people whose names begin with M a x. 'j B * . ' The wets seem to think that When Lincoln said: "The Ynion Most Be Preserved," lie meant pickled. ' ? J Every now and again there appears some fellow wh would tear politics apart just to see why it ticks. The question that is bothering the people of Xorti Carolina now is, whose monkey wrench did Mr. Maxwel throw? * ? , s ? * ? * We wonder if the General Assembly is going to allow politicians to put the accent on the first sylhtblc of its last name? ? ' ? -? They mfist bctfast learning American ways in Germany A railroad strike and a coal miners strike were staged simultaneously in the Ruhr. All international difficulties are 011 the verge of beinC settled. We see by the papers that Spanish is to be t;nighr in the Asheville schools.' 1 ? The Esquimos may have been hit, hard by that mrt!. quake, but at least they are not bedeviled With local, state, national, and international politics. ( The doctrine that it makes no difference what we be leive, just so we are conscientious, is bunk. It was what the Germans were taught to beleive that got them in the fix thej' are in now. ' v ? / The wild beasts of political, racial, religious, and com mercial prejudice and jealousy^ have been gathered at Lausanne, and Richard Wa iilHit^n Child inurlit have led them if he had been thero in ?t!ic rolo of leader, and not observer. WAYNESVILLE'S NEW PAPER. The Haywood Journal is the name under which tiie new paper of our neighboring ci^y of Wvnesville is to begin publication, within the next few days. Our one-time school master, and nll-timfc friend, ProT. W. C. Allen, is to be the editor. Mr. II. N. Sentelle, is secretary and trcs urer, 1). C. Howell, manager. We welcome these gentle men into the field, wish them much success, and feel that we should think ourselves greatly complimented that we have made the name" Journal" such an honorable one in Western North Carolina that they have adopted it. SITTING PRETTt. The first of this week the whole United States, as far south as Florida and Louisiana, lias' been shivering and shaking with the cold. The country has been in the grip ot' a mighty blizzard. Most of North Carolina has been covered with sleet and snow. But we, within the shelter ed coves and vallics of our defectable mountains, have been "sitting pretty". The 'weather liaS not been severe. It is true that it was slightly cloudy with a little rain, the first days of the week, but there has been much sunshine and only enough briskues^ufrtlie air to give it a tonic tinge. The old climate of thl^^untaiiis, when all is said and done, is tHc climate par excellence, the year around. POLITICS OR PARSIMONY? The General Assembly might as well understand that t he people arc not interested in the factional politic?.'. rows, and personal political ambitions of certan men, :t. much as, they are in the educational welfare of thei .-Itildreti, and the rational progress of the state. T!:e mem Iters of the present assembly might well remember ilia' I heir predecessor, of 1921 was a body that was not par simonijous with the state institutions, and that upon l!i. strength of that record the party to which most of t!:< member":' 'of the present legislature belong was relurnc! to power by the largest vote that any political part. lias ever recieved in North Carolina. It is well to see tin: money k wisely expended, but it is never good busiiie or political jtolicV to bo parsimonious with the vital tliigv; ! ot a business or of a commonwealth. i ? . ? \ ' >, i ) .
