Wer now have a cream mar ket in oui own county just exactly the same iis if we had this creamery building mid plant located in Jack son. It is due to the start we have made in laying the foundation for dairy farming in this county that the Carolina Creamery is rutin irig their I . * truck to Dillsboro twice each week and taking our cream at' the same price they pay at the plant in Frank lin. 1 " ?C? ' I I We have made a good start now with sevenfP fjyniors keeping 2 tind 3 cows but -?ew farmers will make a real good sized cash income for themselves until they begin too keep | 5 and o cows and have a cream sej> arator. This is the economical farm' unit and with a separator time and money boili will be saved. The av- i crage number of cows kept by Macon j county cream sellers is 5 and in Jack-1 son i tis 2. The Macon farmer lias i enough cows to make dairying a small busineess and most of them j with a sejmrator arc not only pooduc ing more cream bile far better cream. The same is true in Clay county. However, bolh Macon and Clay coun ty have been selling cream two and three years while we started only a little more than a year'a^. It is due to the rapid growth we have mad - in .lac- on that the branch of Carolina Creamery has been estab lished at Dillsboro. For the past Uv3 weeks the cream at Dillsboro brought 43 and U cents per pound, buttcrfat test. Cream collected on the routes brought this same price less 5 cents per pound for collecting. Carolina creamery brought well over $150,000 worth of dairy products from Tennessee and Kentucky last year. Thev have decided it far more practical to have these dairy products produced in this section of Western North Carolina and keep our money at home. The market' is here and there is absolutely no hope for us to ever produce more dairy products than our market demands. So its up to ou progressive farmers to increase! the cows per farm from 2 to 6 as quickly as they can. SYLVA HOTEL Reonened under new management. Excel lent meals, cood beds. nice rooms.
