JACKSON CO. JOURNAL DAK TOMPKINS, - - Editor Published Weekly By the JACKSON COUNTY JOURNAL CO. Entered as second class matter at Sylva, N. C. I - I The only trouble with the budget is tliat you can't budge it. The solid South is real soft as compared to the Solid West, when it comes to that Park issue. ? We had hopes for 1927; but tha politicians and financiers are busy predicting that the country will enjoy the same brand of prosperity through the New Year that it has during 1926. The Hendersonville News suggests that we all resolve today to pay all our# debts. If resolutions would pay 'em, we wouldn't owe a cent. , - < * ? ? ? ? No matter how much talk there is about it, during the year, 1927 won 't produce a national democratic con vention. I * Swain county has decided to again put on the farm agen,t work. If that county is fortunate in getting as good man for the job as Jackson has in C. W. Tilson, the work will never again be discontinued. _ *) (_ During the past two weeks, the busiest,t or one of the busies plcaes in Jackson county, has been the Sylva post office; and Postmast er Warren and his assistants are to be commended upon the efficient manner in which they handled the large volume of holiday business. < Governor McLean told the general assembly that thirty million dollars is all that is needed for the highway work in the state during the next two years. Of course, we are to under stand that includes concrete IJrom Sylva to the Cullowhee State Nor mal School, Mr. McLean? The commissioners Jackson county are to be commended upon their action in voting to cooperato with the state in employing a pub lic health nurse for Jackson county. The health of the people and the wel fare of its women and children is a matter of paramount importance to the county. - (J The Governor failed to make men tion of the Great Smoky Mountains ^ National Park, in his message to the general assembly. Surely he will pre sent this highly important mat ter in a special message. A man who is big enough to be seriously men tioned for the presidency of the Un ? / itcd States, of course, can see the importance of this big matter, and! \ has a vision broad enough to reach from Robeson county tb as far west v as the borders of his own state. ...? \C HOLIDAY PARTIES A number of parties enlivened the holiday season here. Among the first was a Christmas tree party, given by Mrs. Walter L. Jones to members of the P. D. K., on the evening of the twentieth of December, a. lovely Christmas tree, with a gift for eacli member of the Klan being an enjoy able feature of the occasion. On Wednesday evening of last week Misses Ruth Oliver and Irene Cathey entertained with a card and dancing party at the home of 'Miss Cathey. On Thursday evening Miss Isabelle Allison was hostess at a dance at the home of Mr. and Mrs. L. C. Hall 011 Courtland Heights, a large number of guests enjoying the occasion. \ Tonight Miss Katherine McKee is entertaining the membres of the P. D. K. at the home of her aunt, Mr* Carrie McKee, the young ladies hav* ing been invited to spend the night with Miss McKee. O On Monday evening of last week Mrs. Jeff Hedden was hostess at a dinner party, having as guests Mr. and Mrs. Walter Jones, Miss Ora Killian, of Hayesville, Miss Blonde Crawford, Mr. Garland Jones, of Bre vard and Mr. Donald Allison of Chamblee, Ga.
