Mr. Cosgrove, who recently stood an examination for entrance to the Coast Guard Academy, holds the distinction of being the first man, from Florida, to be admitted to the Academy. He will leave soon for New London, where he will take a three year officer's training cotkrse.. PARTY CAMPS ON WHITESIDE Mrs. Philip Cosgrove, Misses Helen Ward, Katherine Cubbage Hattw Kennickell, and Evelyn Campbell Messrs. J. F. Freeze, Philip Cosgrove, III, Gimer Moody, Carl Williams, Charles Padgett; Conrad Nichols and W. E. Lebey, formed a party camping on Whiteside,, the first of the week. ICE CREAM SOCIAL The eoitfmunity clnb of Dillsboro will give an ice cream supper at the Dillsboro graded school on Friday, August 26 at 6:30 in the evening. Tiie public is invited. The proceeds from the supper will be applied to ti e work of the school. 7 ? "ft WILL DECORATE CEMETERY The people who have friends and relatives buried in the Cullowhee Cemetery will meet there on Friday, August 26 for the purpose of clean ing off the graves and walks. On the Sunday following they will meet again for the annual decoration of t< the graves. WILL ENTERTAIN AT BRIDGE ( , "' Mrs. Harry E. Buchanan and her sister, Miss Mayme Long, will enter tain at bridge Thursday afternoon at the home of Mrs. Buchanan. Guests have been invited to make up seven tables of bridge, with a few tea guestss. The flowers and the refresh ments will carry out a rainbow effect. ZONE MEETING AT CULLOWHEE A Zone Meeting of the Methodist Missionary Societies will be held at Cullowhee Tuesday with an all day meeting, at < which time Mrs. Geo. Hampton of Canton, will be the prin cipal speaker. This Zone is comprised of the missionary societies of Can ton, Wavnc-sville, Sylva and Cullow liee Methodist churches. MISSIONARY SOCIETY MEETS WITH MRS. CATHEY A large number of members attend ed the August meeting of the Meth odist missionary society, held with Mrs. J. H. Cathey, Tuesday at her home on Courtland Heights. An inter esting program, led by Mrs. W. II. Rhodes was presented, and delightful refreshments served by Misses Cath erine and Frances Grindstaff, were enjoyed during the social hour.
