Allison at her home here. ' N ' MISS SULLIVAN WEDS CAPT. ( CARROLL Miss Inez Sullivan, daughter of Dr. and Mrs. J* M. Sullivan of Hayes ville, was married on August twentv seventh to Capt. Homer L. Carroll of .Atlanta. Mrs. Carroll has been en gaged in business in Sylva for1 the past several years, as the owner of the Woman's Shop and has, by her charming persorwftity, won numbers of friends throughout this section, since her residence here. Capt. Carroll, who during his ser vice with the United States Army, was in a number of thrilling and dangerous engagements, was also con nected with the United States lega tion. .... Capt. and Mrs. Carroll will, later make their home in Atlanta. .<> POWELLS HOLD REUNION 1 The ten children of Mr. T. J. Pow ell, with their husbands and wives, and 22 grandchildren, gathered at his home at Tuckaseigee, Sunday for the family reunion. Dinner was serv ed out-doors, picnic style. The children of Mr. Powell, who were present, were I. H. Powell, J. T. Powell, Ott Powell, Hobart Powell, Nevil Powell, Mrs. Joe Rigdon, Mrs. John Rigdon, Mrs. Ira Brown, Mrs. Sol Henry and Mrs. Clyde Calloway. Mrs. Calloway lives in Cincinnati, 0., and her husband and little daughter, Vivian June, accompanied her to her old home. GOES TO PARIS FOR REUNION Blaine Nicholson, assistant cash ier "of the Tuckaseigee Bank, left Wednesday morning, for Norfolk, from where he will sail for Paris, to attend the American Legion con vention, representing William E. Dil lard Post, of Sylva. While in Europe Mr. Nicholson will '-visit many places in France, Germany and Belgium. He was with the A. E. F. and the Army of Occupation, for more than a year, in 1918 and 1919. Mr. Nich olson expects to return Eo Sylva about October 20. 1 GEO. SNYDER SELLS INTEREST R. C. Snyder of Cornelia, Ga., a brother of George C. Snyder has pur chased an interest* in the Snyder mer cantile business at Beta, and has moved his family here. Rev. Geo. C. Snyder stated that he hopes to have more time to devote to his church work; and that his brother and new partner will devote his entire time to the mercantile business, which will be enlarged and a stock of feeds and fertilizers will be carried, in addi tion to the enlargement of the regu lar stock now carried. MRS. ENSLEY ENTERTAINS Mrs. .Alvin Ensley was hostess, at her home here, Tuesday evening, hon oring her sister-in-law, Mrs. A. W. Oakes, of Winter Haven, Fla., and her brother-in-law, Mr. Herschel Hooper of Akron, Ohio. The lower floor of the house was artistically decorated, the colors of . . * the rainbow being employed with charming effect. The evening was spent in bridge and dancing, three tables of bridge having been made lip, others of the guests enjoying dancing. Mrs. Harry E. Buchanan made high score among the ladies and was presented a lovely compact, j while Mr. Dan Tompkins Was p -e-' sented a leather bill t'old: an holder of top score among the men. A dainty favor was presented eiic'i guest. Punch was served throughout tho evening and a delightful ice course was served late in .the evening. MRS. DILLARD AND MRS. BALES , TO HONOR MRS. CARROLL Mrs. Homer L Carroll will be guest of honor at a tea, given by Mrs. C. A. Bales and Mrs. J. L. Dillard at the home of Mrs. Dillard Friday af ternoon. A large number of guests haye been invited to meet Mrs. Car r.oll, a recent bride. , li',, MISSIONARY SOCIETY ELECTS i OFFICERS Mrs. C. L. Allison was re-elected president, Mrs. I. H. Powell, vice president, Mrs. B. O. Painter, secre tary, Mrs. Roy C. Allison treasurer of local funds at the September meet ing of the Baptist Woman's Mission ary Society, held at the church this afternoon. Mrs. A. J. Dills was elect ed treasurer of mission funds, to suc ceed Mrs. Myra Loftis, who resigned. The program was presented by Cir cle Number 3, with Mrs. W. C. Reed leader. The society will observe the week of Prayer for State Missions with a meeting held each afternoon during the week. The meeting will be in the homes of the members, rotating from circle to circle, beginning Monday. JACKSON WOMAN DIES OF BURNS Mrs. Charles B. Sanford has just received telegraphic information to the effect that her mother, Mrs. Vance Dillard is dead, and her father Vance Dillard was seriously burned, from an explosion in a dry-cleaning establishment, in Tampa, Fla.
