of all the ages in the foremost files-
of time." The young man who doe
not get an education today will fin
himself handicapped, eclipsed ti
morrow ,when he enters the strugg!
of life. I see in my mind's eye no
a man whom nature did much! for,
and to whom God gave excellent tal
ent and opportunity. His physica
appearance makes him distinguished
ie Iooks like a man made to do
large things in the world. But he is
doing small things. When a boy he
ft
was iiKe some or you he did not
see aiij use in going to SCnool SO
much." He wanted to marry. He
wanted to so into business. , His
father tried but failed to get him to
take a college course. When it was
too late the young man saw his great
mistake. He is a comparative fail
ure in life he calls himself an entire
failure because he did as some of
you would like to do now.
You who can 'go to school and have
your books furnished and way paid
snouia De very gratetul. You are
among the favored of earth, if you
but knew it. These ; are your golden
days. Don't waste them. Grati
tude to parents and, to God, and re-
specs ior yourseii snouia make you
put forth your best endeavors to re
deem the time and improve your tal
ent. Some of you have parents who
are making great sacrifices to keep
you at college., I know more about it
than you may . think I do perhaps
more than vou know. You- are verv
ungrateful and '.unkind if you disap
point these good people who send you
to school. .
Some of you will go away for the
first time. You1 will be homesick, I
am sure. But you will recover from
that. It is not a fatal disease. Of;
course, you will be no such baby as
to write that vou have to come
home. That would show your lack of
he stuff of which men and women are
made. Buckle down to hard work.
Make up your mind, to like your
studies, your te'achers and your schoolmates.
I hope none J of you will be sent
lome. O, the. disgrace ot it! and O.
the pain it. would cause your father
and mother. "If vou are sent hoihe-OT
disgraced in any wav at school
will be the fruit of your own miseon
duct. If teachers were unfair thev
could not disgrace, you. If yau have
rude and disobedient Toommates you
need not take part in their wrong
doings. :
"My son, if sinners entice the
consent thou not." "Resist, the devil
and he will flee from you." Estab
lish a record for truth, hard work
and honest dealing, and your enemies
(if you have any) cannot break it
down.
Be a Christian.
Be Christ's young man or young
woman, lou are very weak and fool
ish if you are ashamed to wear his
colors. The boys who have done the
best work in Georgia schools and have
gotten the most honors are Christian
boys. , .' ,
Be in your place at church and
Sunday school.
Make j friends with the pastor of
your church. Do not wait for him to
speak first.- It will 'be hard for him
to '-know all of you in a little while.
If he. is a man of God he is your
true friend. You did not forget your
Bible, did yiu? , 'If you j did,' write
home .and 'have it sent to you. "Write
tonight. And read it every day. it
is the most valuable book in your li
brary. -
And now let ;mo beg you to not
complain about your table faro and
how they treat you. It is a silly hab
it that boarding school pupils have of
criticising the. bill of fare.
I know a large school in Georgia
where board is only $8 month
good substantial, board, too. I do
not see how they can afjford to keep
healthy, hearty boys at that price,:
but they-do it. ; And do you know
there are boys and girls who have
the cheek and nerve, the gall to com
plain and harp about what they, have
to eat. And they get good whole
some food thre6 square meals a day
clean, and well cooked at $0 per
month. Such people would criticis
the angels and complain at the fare in
the New Jerusalem, if they ever
see that city.
I wish you Well in your college or
school career.
Every day good men and women
are praying for you. Be true to
vour best self.. Fear God. Do your
best and all will be well. By Eey.
