After Mr. Jones arrived, Prof. Excell sans a beatifal solo: "The road to heaven" and the choir and congregation joined in the chorus: "I'm going home." This was followed bya shoit secret prayer. Mr. Jones said ho did not feel like preaching, but woald keep his seat and talk to the congre gation from his chair. He did not select a text. He wanted to aak every unconverted person in the building one question: "Why will you continue in sinf Why go away from this warehouse to night an impenitent sinner!" Mr. Jones then took up the fol lowing answers and discussed tucjxi uiusi earnestly: iI)on,t know what sin is." "Ignorant of the nature of tin." "Don't knowthe consequences of sin." ' "Don't think." "A Her a while," "KecklesHneks." "Jiecauso a conquered peace taken possession of the soul." The preacher handled these questions inT-such a manner that soon no smuer had any standing ground and there was nothing left but a complete surrander to Christ. Soon Mr. Jones became warm ed up and words with no such power and bearing over fell upon a Durham audience as did his as he walked to and fro upon the platform. With an anguished look and cut-strctchod ''hands ho cried: "Oh! my God! Am I preach ing the funeral of some poor soul tonight, who, in spite of all our entreaties, will perish in the wrong, and before next Monday morning be in hell a damned soul, without hope forever?" The wit of woman has been praised, but her instincts are quicker and keener than her reason. Counsel with your wife or your mother, or sister, and be assured that light will flash upon your darkness. Women are too commonly adjudged as verdant in all but purely womish affairs. No philosophical students of the sex thus adjudges them. Their intu ition or insight is the more sub tile, and if they cannot see a cat in the meal there is no cat there. In counseling one to tell his trou bles to his wife wo'would go fur ther and advise him to keep nothing from her.
