IMckorv, "H ortb Carolina, Cburslw, 31111 c 14, ISSS. Freeman-Jenkins Vendetta. A FIGHT TO THE DEATH WITH KNIVES - - • On last Saturday, the Uh instant, a tight occurred at Hudson, N. C . in which John Jenkins and Larry Freeman were the principal actort*. In the tight Freeman only received a few riesh wounds, but Jenkins did not get off so light, being stabbed in many places, from the effects of which tie will probably die. The exact particulars of the tight have not been learned but Freeman says he killed Jenkins in self-defense. Jenkins is H son in-law of W. C. Jones, of Caldwell county and Jeaves a wife and several children. Although this vendetta has exten ded over and been cariied 011 for a period of ten or twelve A ears and there has been many fights and dif ficulties between the two families this is the first time there has been a tatal termination to any of the troubles between them. Can'i Turn \'h Down. When it comes to the test you can just bet 01 Hickory "getting there ' We are "right up" on everything ! that can add to the support of the , Democratic ticket. As soon as the I news of the nominations was re *ceived the town was Hooded with ' red bandana handkerchiefs, the le gem! of which appears elsewhere. Then came the organization of a Young Men's Democratic Club, and this was followed by a master stroke by the enterprising Banner Cigar Co. While sitting in our sauctum early Monday morning, debating whether or not the surplus of the company would stand a draw of 2A cents for a cigar, we unexpectedly received the beautifully colored lith ograph portraits of (trover Cleve land and Atten (i. Thurinan and a package of Cleveland and Thurman ' cigars, manufactured by the Banner Cigar Co. We immediately tested the cigar and pronounce it a good one. Mr. Marshall deserves credit for his thrift in placing before the ! publio a cigar which will be so uni versally demanded. In tour days after the nominations he had the ci gar manufactured, advertised and on the market. ' '•Bandana*' hankerchiefs go free with every $5.00 purchase at Royster «V Martin, Hickory, N. C. *».
