Un der his wise management, the Method ist Sunday-school has greatly enlarged and had infused into it an eclat that gives the brightest promise of future triumphs. Rector James A. Weston's return to his ministerial labors in this city, after a visit of several months to New York, is highly gratifying to a host of friends and admirers. As a scholar, he is the peer, of the best; as a sermonber, he is terse, strikingly forcible, oftentimes expressing vital truths so distinctively epigrammatieal as to rivet them upon the mind of his hearers, with a pleas ing memory of the chaste English in which they were couched. Had he a modicum of egotism he would be uni versally recognized as a great figure in the clerical world. ! Mr. R. H. Declin ing years with the grtAt cares and bur dens of a large pastorate prvented him from completing the work and publishing it as he desired. Recently, through the kindness of his widow, Mrs. Euiilv Jan Welker. the manu- Lscript was placed in our hands. His daughter, Mrs. Mable Welker Coble, who had been his amanuensis for the last fe? years of his lif, kindly con sented to copy it for us. We now publish it and send it forth through the church, trusting that it will in spire some one else to writ more fully the history of our beloved church in North Carolina. Joseph L. Muriihy. Hickory. N..C, Jan. 15. 1893. Although we are not of the fold, we have read with interest and profit the above pamphlet. Every member of the Reformed Church throughout the Union would be benefited by its care ful perusal. We commend it to them. . Mrs. H A. Jlainey North Danrille, Va. We were sorely disappointed and troubled to know that President Harper, the excellent gentleman that h is, had so barbarously sat down on Hickory people. However, it may be that the Narrow Gauge road is not run solely for the accommodation of the public; but for the filthy lucre there is in it when conducted by bus iness methods. Selah! We reached Newton Wednesday morning. The Press and Carolinian will take any kind or country produce also wood in payment for subscript ion. UuvuiciiHi Arnica mi.
