Healan, of Lenoir, was in this city Sunday and Monday with her daughter, Mrs. Ed. Aber nethy. She came to attend the funer al and burial of Dr. B. G. Cole. R. came in on the Vestibule Tuesday morning, boar ded the special train that was in wait ing for them and went to Lenoir. Mrs. L. L. Vitherspoon and Mrs. Mary Hall, of Newton, sister and mother of Messrs. J. G. Hall and P. C. Hall were in the city Saturday, to attend the funeral services of Miss Sa die Hall. Seagle's for several months, left Monday evening for her home in Wilmington. To day the well known, energetic and lead ing merchant of Fonta Flora, Mr. A. H. Giles, was united in the holy bonds of wedlock to Miss Claray Con nelly, a young lady whom we regard as having no superiors, and few equals. To the young couple we extend our best wishes, and hope their paths through life will be strewn with flow ers. Correspondent. Wal ton, at his hospitable homestead, Creekside, gavaa birthday dinner to his children, his son Dr. Geo., of Il linois, being the only one absent. There were present E. S. Walton and wife, T. J. Walton and wife. Rev. N. Falls and wife, C. S. Smith and wife. C. F. McKesson and wife, John H. Pearson and wife, I. T. Avery and wife, (Mrs. Avery being a grand-datigh-ter,aud Mr. Herbert H. Walton. It is needless to say that a i his custom, the Colonel had an elegant spread. It was indeed a most delight ful day, in which many a reminiscence was told with a zest and heartily en joVVd. An accomplished artist. Mr. F. W. Tyler, was sent for and took a photo of this large and happy family. It was a great pleasure to Col. Wal ton and his children to be thus gath ered together, and it must have Uen a greater pleasure to them to know that through all these long years he has lead a clean, upright life. Col. Walton is a man of sterling worth, of decided literary taste and culture, and has often delighted our readers with bis focile rn. The Her ald extends to him its congratulations on his 79th birthday and wishes him many happy retarns. Morganton Herald. Higacst cf in L-ca chip Dr. Cle Dead. It i with regret we announc the death of Dr. Byron Gray Cole, which occurred Friday. Oct. !!, at 7 o'clock p. in. Dr. Cole was taken sick Friday night, Sept. 20, with a severe chill. Saturday he was in bed mot of-th day. Sun Jay he was letter and went to church. That night he had anoth er chill and was urable to leave his bed. The doctor was called to see him and feared he had typhoid fever. He continued to grow worse and on Wed netday, Oct. 2, he had tftree hemor rhage.. He, however, ralied from that attack ami his family entertained hopes. On Saturday, he had severe heart trouble, which prostrated him very much. Next Tuesday he had more hemorrhages anil continued to grow worse till Friday night when he passed away. Dr. Cole was last year professor at Claremont college and all remember his nice class of six girls who graduated in the spring. August Gth he and Miss CorrieBisan er, one of his graduates, were married and went at once to Mt. Airy at which place he was principal of the high school at the time of his death. Mfs. Bisaner was with her daughter the last week of Dr. Cole's illness,and says they will ever remember the kind peo ple of Mt. Airy, all doing what they could to assist them in their trouble. The remains were brought here Sun day morning and in the presence of a large circle of friends, whose eyes were filled with tears of sympathy for the entire fam'dy and especially for the young wife. " The funeral was conduct ed at the Methodist church by Revs. Townsend and Murphy and the body was laid to rest in Oak wood cemetery. The deepest sympathy of the entire town goes out to the wife in her great trouble. Dr. Cole was 30 years old last June and 'tis sad to think of so bright a life closed, but God know best, and the family are greatly com forted by the knowledge that he was prepared to go. "(Jive me something to put mo to sleep," were her List words, and soon she fell "asleep in Jesus."
