to Catawba, where he goes to attend
the burial of his father, who died Oct.

A very serious runaway occurred

Whitener lost a valuable dray horse.
The horse broke one of his legs and
had to be killed.

Monday evening the passenger train

the old homestead of Palmyra, which
is to be vacated by Hon. S. L. Patter
son, Commissioner of Agriculture,
whose family goes to Raleigh to be
with him. Col. Hall 'will not leave
Hickory. He will continue his office
here in the prosecution of fire and life
insurance.

in the Burke County Fair. It was
numbered one in the entries. Tues

Mrs. May D'Auna Thompson came
to II ickory yesterday (Wednesday) and
decoyed her little sou. Hugh D'Anna,
from school and quietly left in a pri
vate conveyance for Newtou. The
child's father, who is in Lexington,
Ky., has been telegraphed about the
matter. It will be remembered that
Mr. and Mrs. D'Anna were divorced,
some time ao, and he has since had
custody of the children. The other son
is with his father, ami this one was
here with his step-grandmother.
