Beck was1 reported dead last summer, and an announcement to that effect appeared in our esteemed contemporary, the IL rahlnt the time; but Mr. Beck. still lives, we are glad, and that well, judging from his fine physique. New Tax Collector. The county commissioners in session this week appointed John W. Garrison tax collector for the ensuing year and required him to present good bond-at their Octo ber ' meeting. The vote was by ballot and resulted as follows: Samuel 'Huffman, 1; J. W. Garri son, 2. Mr. Huffman is the newly nominated candidate for sheriff and his, republican friends were .sorely disappointed that he did not receive this pkice.
