..The Concord Standard says
Will A. Misenheimer, Esq , of No.

at work at his saw mill when he
stumbled and fell. The edge of
his shoulder struck the saw while

him in before he could be rescued

awful course right through his
neck, his head rolling down on
one side of the saw and his body

. .The Atlanta .CftsiMi'm says ;
beveral old deeds in the court
house at Charlotte, N. C, are
dated in the fifth, ninth and tenth
years of our independece. and
they are all dated from 1776, the
Mecklenburg year of independ
ence, and not from 1776, the year
of the Philadelphia declaration
One of the deeds is witnessed by
a governor of North Carolina.
Dr. George W. Graham, of Char

graphed. They certainly tend to
establish the authenticity of the
Mecklenburg declaration.
..The Asheville Citizen says:
Asheville's hustling little sister
just over the way, Ilendersonville,
is apparently moving along in
great shape. Work is rapidly pro
gressing on the new hotel built by
a stock company. The building is
situated in a beautiful spot near
the depot, and when finished will
be a very imposing structure. It
is a 3-story note., and will cost
about $25,000. There are many
other improvements going on in
the town, and the inhabitants
thereof are confidently looking for
a time of great prosperity.
..The Raleigh correspondent

date of March 2nd, says: The pub.

this being the only ofliceial notice
of.the event. There were many
callers at the residence this morn
ing. For several years the ex
Governor had led a very quiet life,
He wrote occasionally for the
newspapers up to two years ago.
For a year he had but seldom left
his house. He has no doubt left
some very interesting papers. A
history of his life, upon data which
these may furnish, would be of
remarkalle interest. He was in
the very heart of politics from 184.1
l- 1S71. In 1S64 a regiment of
Georgians passing through Kal-
eich sacked his printing office.
Governor Vance gave Holden
shelter at the mansion and took
steps to punish the soldiers who
thus defied law and order The
next day Holden's friends sacked
the office of a newspaper here, ed
ited by John Spelman, which had
expressed pleasure at the work of
the Georgians. Holden always
had strong friends here. The
printers were trreatly attached to
him, and to-day Raleigh Typo
graphical Union, one of the oldest
and largest in the South, attended
the funeral.
