In its effort to seize its prey it lost its balance, tumbled over and before it gained its equil ibrium Mrs. Thompson frailed the life out of it with a pole. Mr. Wm. All old bonds recognized as valid have been funded except $1,221,000, which, if funded, would increase the four per cent, debt to $3,615, 770. The Governor recommends an extension of the time for fund ing now expired, another yeai. The condition of the State's finances he says is excellent. Wilson, Chairman of the Railroad Commission, was Wednesday of last week re-elected, this time to serve a full term of six years. The Raleigh News and Obsen-er says: "The unanimity with which Maj. Wilson was chosen to iucceed himself was a gratify ing acknowledgement of the valuable and justly appreciated service he has rendered the State as Chairman of the Commission since its establishment two years ago, and this was emphasized by the handsome tributes paid him by several members in both branches of the General Assembly. When the commission was created one member was elected for two years, ont for four and one for six, in order that no two should be elected at the same term of the Gmeral Assembly. The full term of a member was, however, fixed at six years. Hon. T. W. Mason was the four year term member, and Mr. E. C. Beddingfield was elected for six years. All three have won the full confidence of the people during their two years service." . .The Shelby Aurora says: 'Af ter five years' Jitigation and a transfer from the State to the Fed eral courts, the case of H. T. Hud son vs. the 3 Cs Railroad was aain tried at Charlotte last week. Able lawyers contested every inch of ground, and the jury after three days trial brought in a verdict in favor of the plaintiff, H. T. Hud son and assessed $3,316.66 as dam ages for the loss of the front half of his left foot. This verdict of the jury, Judge Dick threatened to set aside unless the plaintiff would accent $i?oo damages, then the plaintiff took judgment for this small amount. It is reported that the railroad has appealed. As the 3 C's R. R. is insolvent, loaded with a seven million dollar mortgage and is now in the hands of a receiver, it is a debatable question whether this SI150Q dam ages and costs can be collected from the insolvent road. The laws of North Carolina passed prior to the recording of that seven million dollar mortgage, says all insolvent and solvent rail roads and corporations shall pay damages for all torts, regardless of debts. Lawyers differ on this question, so we must wait and how it terminates." North Carolina fiosoraora. Statcsville Landmark. Mr. J. H. McElwee, of Statevi.le was recently in the town of Eden ton.
