The editor of The Herald is away, and any shortcomings in the paper this weet may be attri buted to that tact. Last Saturday and Sunday reminded one of August days. A reliable gentleman of Mc Dowell county informs us that on rriaaynignt last at 9 oclck a large meteoric stone fell near the house of Mr. D. A. Kanipe, 3 miles from Marion. Bird of Marion, charging Mr. Griffin with uttering a criminal libel against him in his newspaper, the Marion Free Lance. Mr. Griffin waived examination ana gave bond for his appearance at the next tt.rm of McDowell Superior court. Some time ago the town com missioners passed a very wise or der changing White street so as to make it run straight, intersect ing with North Main about a hun dred yards north of the old terminus. The change cut the Methodist circuit parsonage com pletely off from a street front, Mr J. W. Campbell's property lying between the parsonage and street; but a trade was affected by which the parsonage got possession of a front on the new street. It was then necessary to move the house nearer the street, which was un dertaken last week by Mr. J. W. Campbell. With a force of hands and the necessary tools, in a very short time the large two-storv house was rolled a hundred feet and placed upon a new foundation in as good condition as it was be fore it was moved. Rev. T. S. Ellington, pastor of the Morganton circuit, is occupying the parsonage and did not even move the furni ture out of the house while this was going on.
