GREG PHIPPS I COURIER-TIMES -]| BOWLING SUMMARYi [ Person County 12U girls' soccer team captures SWAC state championship On the weekend of November 19 and 20, the Person County Recreation Arts and Parks De partment sent the Person County Girls 12U Soc cer All-Stars to Southern Pines to compete in the SWAC (Statewide Athletic Committee) state tournament. The Person County All-Stars came home with a state championship. There were four teams in Person County’s division and they played pool play head to head against the other three teams (Johnston County, Rocky Mount, and Wilson County). The All-Stars had to play three games. The first game was a victory against Johnston Coun ty. The second game was a win over Rocky Mount and the third contest was a tough loss against Wilson County. However, this meant that Wilson County and Person had finished first and second in pool play and that meant a rematch for the SWAC cham pionship. The title game was a back and forth battle with the Person All-Stars holding on for a 2-1 victory and winning the state SWAC 12U girls soccer championship. “The girls worked hard from August to Novem ber earning the right to represent Person County at the SWAC [tourney],’’ said head coach Troy Bryan. “They dedicated themselves to competing hard the entire weekend and played their hearts out for four tough games and were rewarded for their hard work.” Coach Bryan also wanted to thank all the coaches and parents, who brought the girls to Southern Pines and provided food, drinks and snacks for the entire team on both days. -I AREA SCHEDULE i[- Tuesday, December 6 Boys’ basketball: Person varsity at Oxford Webb 7:30 p.m. Junior varsity game 6 p.m. RCS varsity at Granville Central 7:30 p.m. Junior Varsity game 4:30 p.m. Southern MS at Smith 4:45 p.m. Northern MS home vs. Gravelly Hill 4:45 p.m. Girls’ basketball: Person varsity home vs. Oxford Webb 7 p.m. Junior varsity game 5:30 p.m. RCS varsity at Granville Central 6 p.m. Southern MS home vs. Smith 4:45 p.m. Northern MS at Gravelly Hill 4:45 p.m. Wednesday, December 7 Boys’ basketball: RCS varsity home vs. Northwood 7:30 p.m. Junior varsity game 4:30 p.m. RCS MS home vs. Carolina Friends 5:30 p.m. Girls’ basketball: RCS varsity home vs. Northwood 6 p.m. RCS MS home vs. Carolina Friends 4:30 p.m. Wrestling: Person varsity home vs. Southern 6 p.m. Thursday, December 8 Boys’ basketball: Person JV home vs. Northern 6:30 p.m. Southern MS at Culbreth 4:45 p.m. Girls’ basketball: Person JV home vs, Northern 5 p.m. Southern MS home vs. Culbreth 4:45 p.m. Friday, December 9 Boys’ basketball: Person varsity at Northern 7 p.m. Girls’ basketball: Person varsity at Northern 5:30 p.m. Wrestling: Southern MS at Cul breth 5 p.m. Saturday, December 10 Wrestling: Person at Jordan HS Bull Durham Tourney 9 a.m. PCMBL powered by FITZLAW WEEK FIFTEEN Place Team W L 1.
