Johnson's Pharmacy. , TO THE CITIZENS AND SO JOURNERS IN SOUTHERN PINES: The Southern Pines improve raent Society through its Execu tive Committee desires to ask your co-operation in a matter which surely will commend itself to your good judgment and accord with your'desire to make our town attractive, especially to the visi tors that are expected here week after next. You have no doubt learned that our public spirited Board of Trade has been and is making strenuous efforts to bring to the town a large number of representative men from all parts of the country to confer together, and to induce cap italists to invest here and in other parts of the Southland. We who have made our hometin Southern Pines and those who have become attached to it for the good it has done them, will surely rejoice that there is to be such a gathering, and we will do all we can to make it a success, Especially we will be anxious to have our friends from abroad, both of the North and South, see us at our . best and get a good impression, of what cagt be done in a few years in a sand hill at the South. Our town now needs cleaning. The streets, 'the sidewalks, the front yards and vacant lots, es pecially those in the center of the town, need attention. Can we not have one day in which all will make a special effort to that end? Our Executive Committee suggests next week, Thursday, April 13, as such a day, when all householders and others, interested in making our village attractive to the many visitors expected, are asked person ally to see that their respective neighborhoods are free from dead grass and weeds and rubbish. A team, kindly furnished by a mem ber of the Society, will collect the refuse, if placed in piles, and cart it off where it will not offend the eye of the passer by. It is hoped that our citizens will give this matter their earnest at tention. We appeal to our merchants they can do much to improve and make attractive their places of bus iness and their, surroundings, and on the other hand they can easily make them otherwise. Will they not., cooperate with their fellow townsmen in their good work? Let Thursday April 13th then, be the Village Cleaning Day tor 1899; if raining the first fair day. In behalf of the Executive Com mittee of the Southern Pines Im provement Society. H. T. Gregory, President. Dr. W. L.
