From the outhern Pines Free Press, June 21, 1901. After the most gratifying and successful season in its history, the outh thern Pines Sanitarium has just closed to reopen on October 1. No more striking evidence can be found of the widespread and growing popularity of Southern Pines as a health resort than that furnished by the Sanitarium records. During the season just ended, begun October 1, 1900, a total of 238 patients were treated, hailing from 19 different states the District of Calumbia, Mexico, Nova Scotia, Montreal and Toronto, and Cuba, indicating that this sand and sun warmed garden, spot among the pines is rapidly reach ing its destined place" as the Mecca 'of the continent for the afflicted and dis couraged. This season's sanitarium records show that New York, Pennsyl vania and New Jersey len in number of health -seekers, with the New England states, as usual, well represented. A large majority of patients this season took electric treatment and many cases of cure and improvement nothing short of marvelous, resulted. Dr. Gladmcn, the superintendent of the sani tarium, has devoted more than ten years to the special study of this wonder ful force as applied to chronic and nervous diseases and every known elec trical appliance of approved value will be found In use in this institution. The value of electricity has long been recognized as a potent one among medical-practitioners and Dr. Gladmon is one of the foremost authorities on the sufjject. In additian to making the sanitarium, as it is now admitted to le, the leading institution of the, South for the treatment of chronic and ner vous diseases, as well as favorably known throughout the United States, Dr. Oladmon has done as much as, if not more than, any other one person fo secure national recognition of the marvelous climatic advantages of South ern Fines. address ED'WJN GLADMON!
