The tank, or town reservoir, has
been cleaned out and the waterworks
superintendent informs us that the
only thing found in it was about an
inch of clay which had settled on the
bottom, there being no slime or visi
ble filth discovered.
The fruit shipped over the S. A. L
gets into Norfolk two or three Jhours
before the Southern- shipments arrive
over tne ooutnern Kanway. mis
gives the Southern Pines growers the
top of the Norfolk market every
morning.

comes to spend the summer at South
ern Pines. Mr. Woodnid is a teacher
in Wilmington at the Gregory Insti
tute, but enjoys his vacations with
his family who live here permanently.
Received today, a new lot of tennis

Among the many good and reliable
representatives of the different com
mission houses, we were pleased to
meet with H. W. Moseley, of Norfolk,
who was here several days represent
ing his own firm. He secured many
good shipments of peaches, and will
doubtless do well by our growers.

B. A. Hughes who went from
here to Charlotte, is with us again
as operator at the depot. Mrs.
Hughes, who is sick at her homo
in Marion, will come as soon as
she is able to travel; and while we
are glad to have here again, it is
to be regretted that bad health on
the part of Mrs. Hughes compels
their return. W. H. Guess, the
present operator, goes to Clinton
S. C, as night operator.
