Barlow and wife have return ed to their summer home, Watertown, Conn., after spending the winter wth us. Mr. Barlow has superitended the building of Mrs. Cavilleer's very piet ty cotage on Ashe street now known as Mount Vernon. This portion of our town was what one would call the woods, when Mr. Barlow first begun to lay the foundation for this very de sirable and well planned building and now there are several other cottages in the same neighborhood. He has become so well pleased with Southern Pines that he has purchased a lot for himself at the corner of Ash street and Vermont avenue, and will return in early fall to build for a winter home. Mr. Barlow ssys he will have none but good words for Southern Pines while north and will probably bring some of his friends with him on the return trip. Unless exterminated to some extent rag-weed, sand-spurs and dogs will make life insurance policies consider ably higher in this town, for more than one citizen has wished for Dew ey's fleet and Schley's courage during the past two weeks. To sleep at night is an impossibility, and to get relief you must take your "stand" and get a shot at the most worthless set of midnight prowlers that ever infested any town, as they take in every street, avenue, nook and corner. Dog! well, wouldn't it please you if we had a sausage factory and all the dogs were fat? FOR SALE A new FranKlyn proof press. Will be sold for less than cost. Ad dress the FREE PRESS.
